rtm815
First I know that the word scale is a terrible word and I will get rid of it one day. However, with my background, natural bodybuilder, the scale was like my toothbrush I dont start my day without either. So, strict eating, planing, etc is something Im totally used to. Ive been following the Paleo lifestyle for 2 months now, recently found the whole 9. Im up in weight. My closes are tighter. i feel heavier. Ive wondered if this lifestyle is for everyone, or is there a possiblilty that some are fat sensitive, the higher fat does the opposite reaction. If carbs, not sugar, are better in higher quantity. Ive posted this question a few times on other paleo sites and get the answer to stick with it. But how long do you stick with it before Im busting outta all my clothes and feeling like lard? I workout 5-6 days a week. cross fit mainly, added in runs (this has been super painful b/c of the gains). I would love some feedback on this. missmary
stop weighing yourself? do the program as written? the problem with the scale is it makes us second guess your bodies' own cues on hunger (you want to restrict now, right?) and no matter how much we intellectually know that body weight changes are not linear (you know that right?--water, digestion, hormones-even for guys-all mess with this) we naturally want to see linear reductions and get mad/sad/ready to give up when we don't. I guess I would say, give the program a chance to work. That means 30 days at least and then see where you are. Wait a second! I just re-read your post and it says you've been eating Paleo? Are you doing a whole 30? Paleo can mean all kinds of things. How about reading It Starts With Food and following the Whole 30 plan for a while (no scale) and see how you do? rtm815
I've read the book and doing the daily digest. I was following everyday paleo website and Robb Wolff. It is super close to whole 9 I think. Without the bacon of course ....
juju
oh rtm815...Sadly, I feel your pain. I decided to go at least 60 days without stepping on the scale. In addition, for my experiment I gave up all fruit, nuts and nut butters and caffeine. So for the past 60 days I have eaten grass fed beef, sardines, eggs, salad greens, roasted mixed veggies and usually a bit of japanese sweet potato or winter squash following a workout. My diet before the whole30 had some greek yogurt, some fruit and artifical sweetetners from sugar free gum but I cut out added sugars, legumes (other than peanut butter!) and grains years ago. I ate 3 meals a day following whole30 guidelines and no snacks. Exercise about 1 hour per day 6 days a week. So, I thought the extra clean up effort would produce some fat loss results. Well, it didn't I gained 6lbs in 60 days and no it isn't all muscle. My clothes are tighter and my face is rounder and I am entirely discouraged. Physically I feel fine, not much different than before I started but I do notice that my heartburn in gone...I think it was the yogurt. I do appreciate that the heartburn is gone and I realize this is not a weightloss diet....it was not supposed to be a WEIGHT GAIN diet either. Truthfully, the scale # matters less to me than the fact my clothes are tighter and my abs are less visible and I'm not as lean as I was before this process started. So, rtm815...you are not alone and I feel your pain and I wish I knew how to make it work for both of us cuz this is not what I had hoped for. Aberrantatavia
Do you have food and exercise logs? I was very paleo prior to doing my whole 30 and yet I didn't realize the subtle things that were in my diet that were not real food. Doing this particular program means being totally and completely compliant for 30 days. Maybe someone could share some words of wisdom with you if you could give us a few days of logs. I hope you find success with this!
Flynn
If you're working out a lot lifting weights in an attempt to gain muscle, and then eating a lot of protein and fat to build that muscle, doesn't it make sense that you'll weigh more? Toss the scale!!
Laura B
Are you getting enough rest? You could be over-training...6 days a week is a lot for your body to handle. Maybe you should go through a deload period to let your body rest. How are your stress levels? Are you getting enough sleep?
