No dairy means return of leg cramps

Recommended Posts

I have long known that dairy is particularly inflammatory to my sinuses and lungs but pre-Whole30, eating yogurt daily helped me not have calf cramps at night. Now that I am dairy-free, the cramps have returned, despite taking calcium supplements and continuing to eat a banana a day. It has been suggested that I either drink diluted apple cider vinegar (which I don't like the taste of) or take apple cider vinegar gel tabs.

Any other suggestions will be welcome.

Thanks.

There's been a lot of discussion in the past about leg cramps here in the forum, you might try googling Whole30 leg cramps to read through some of those past discussions and see if you find anything helpful.

In general, eating plenty of foods rich in potassium and magnesium (and possibly supplementing if you need to -- many people seem to be deficient in magnesium no matter how well they eat), salting your foods (and you might try something like a sea salt that would have more minerals than just regular table salt, although table salt is okay), and making sure you're well hydrated are the things that are most recommended to help with cramps.

This article also lists other sources of calcium besides dairy products.

I too have leg cramps . . but the new problem is my toes are burning and painful.  It seems like the recipes are very acidic.  If I can't remedy this, I won't be able to continue with Whole 30.  Dairy seems to provide a buffering that keeps this in check.  Help?

OK . . Here goes:  Breakfast is 2 eggs with 1/2 banana & tea  /  lunch is a protein salad . . usually chicken with greens, tomatoes, black olives, avocado, red pepper and evo & vinegar.  Dinners have been 1- pork tenderloin with salad (greens, orange slices, raw beet & walnuts plus balsamic vinaigrette) & roasted red potato.  2 - grilled chicken in chimichurri marinade, roasted red potato, salad (greens, spinach, kale, lettuce with radish & carrot).  I have a snack . . 1/2 apple with some almond butter.  I'm a small person . . 5'4" and weigh 115.  Not doing this for weight loss, obviously.  I want to address an inflammation issue and see if I can reduce cholesterol. I drink water in addition to my morning tea . . no other beverages.  Not sure about quantity, perhaps 5-6 8oz. glasses. Thanks for any advise . . I'm feeling very uncertain of what is right for my body.
