Help! Day 22 and CRAVING like Crazy!

Recommended Posts

Help! Like I said in the title, I'm on Day 22 (almost there!) and all I can think about is how much I want some sweets! I've been craving sweets for days and have had multiple times where I've thought "What's the point?! If it's only for 30 days, what real change will it bring?"

I have seen many benefits of whole30 - mainly that my aches are gone, have a little more energy, feel sharper minded, and I've lost some weight so far, but I've gotten into a rut of thinking that this is not sustainable, so why even continue. It's been over 100 degrees for the past few days where I live, and I keep longing for ice cream!

Why don't I feel like I have control over my cravings? The first 10 days I totally felt in control of them, but I have no idea what happened! How do I get back?

Any advice or help would be great!!

Sounds like you're going through extinction burst.  Read more about it here

Where are you at in your monthly cycle?  If it's that time of the month for you, be sure you're having at least one serving of carb-dense vegetables daily.

Hang in there for the 30 days. You might find this article helpful.

"If you’re craving sugar, don’t give your body sugar! Eat high fat instead, with a little bit of protein, and tough it out. Break those cravings once and for all. "

If you’re craving carbs   (read: SUGAR!),    eat fat and protein.   Giving yourself sugar is NOT the route to go.

It may take a week or two… it may take a month or two. Depends on how bad your sugar demons are, and how you treat them during your Whole30. Dallas likes to say you can’t kill the sugar dragon with willpower, you have to STARVE it. So don’t give in to those cravings during your Whole30 by using fruit as a crutch… stick it out and it will get better.

Best of luck to you!

Melissa

I 100% agree with the above post.  The same exact thing happened to me, but I had a total breakdown and stuffed myself with fruit (certainly not as bad as cookies and cake).  I'm really wishing I would have handled it differently and tried the protein+fat approach.  Live and learn!

I was where you are just a week ago. I was literally driving around looking at all the fast food places I could stop at. I wanted greasy hamburgers and ice cream. It took everything I had to drive back to my office and eat my compliant lunch. I remembered someone told me to fight the craving with fat and protein so I ended up eating an entire avacado with my meal and it worked.

Fight the craving you can do this!
