Tricky Lox Label

Hi everyone

 

I am usually a pretty clean eater and pretty savvy on reading labels. I am really mad at myself because I have been incorporating lox that I thought had no added ingredients but salt. I am so confused because I just looked again and it says sugar (not sure if its changed), however it says in the nutrition label, ZERO grams of sugar. I obviously won't keep buying this brand, but since the amount doesn't even warrant a gram countage, do I need to add days to my experience? I am already doing a whole 45 to make sure I see the benefits of this because of some unabeled nuts I ate at a wedding....

I appreciate your response, and plan on keeping up this "whole 30" mentality long past my 45 days. I am not yet seeing perfect improvement in some neurological difficulties I am coping with right now (have potentially noticed some..time will tell), but if there is any chance diet can help, I am not going to just go back to eating anything I want.

 

However, I don't want to defeat myself by continuing to add, and add, and add days. Mentally that may defeat me.  I have been SO careful these past 17 days. Spending hours at the grocery store reading labels, not eating beautiful entrees at weddings, annoying waitresses until they are blue in the face, cooking to prep my meals for the week... 

 

While I can't help but notice the blaring "yes you should start overs" I am seeing in the article you posted, I am also seeing the section regards to added sugar slip ups...

I have for sure learned my lesson.  If this isn'y going to mess up my "body's" experience, and has scarred me enough to teach me (believe me it has) to be SUPER careful in the future...  I don't know that adding a WHOLE additional 30 days on is something I will do.  I am going to sit on this.

I'm not going to tell you to restart (we've all had slipups, myself included) but one thing I will say is that if I make slip ups and don't restart (or recount for a longer wholeX) I am really apt to let other slips in. Psychologically it's too easy to say "well I ate that x already so this x is ok".

I know you are worried about feeling defeated and I get that, but the feeling of truly doing 30 days is amazing both psychologically and physically and I know I wouldn't feel that if I'd allowed a slip in.

Maybe that's just me though.

I don't quite understand... you said there is no sugar listed in the ingredients and on the nutritional label it says ZERO grams of sugar.  Sugar as a word is ALWAYS listed on the nutritional label (not the ingredient label) even if there is zero... then they just put zero.  If your lox has 'fish' and 'salt' on the ingredients and no other non-compliant ingredients, then your fish is fine.

The OP said they double-checked the ingredients and sugar was listed.
