Sparkle0920
I am currently doing the regular Whole 30...I was inspired to do this because of some neurological symptoms I began experiencing in the winter. I figured if anything, a great diet as a foundation could only help me, which led me to some very clean eating, which then led me to the Whole 30. I am still in the middle of my regular Whole 30. And actually may be taking it to a whole 60 (or 62) to be exact because of 2 blurps along the way... (handful of nuts at a wedding that I realized could have been cooked in a no no oil, and lox that had added sugar...still not sure on that one warranting a restart based on the article floating around on restarts saying added sugar doesn't "restart" your system necessarily.) The AIP looks SO intense and limiting to me. The whole 30 is already very limiting, and I am dropping weight pretty fast on it (I am not overweight to begin with, and don't want to get overly thin.) I guess I am wondering... is it possible to do the regular whole 30, and then the reintroduction period, figure out any triggers, leave those out of my diet, and then take out only the additional AIP components (Eggs, nuts, nightshades) for the recommended 90 days or is the AIP only recommended while limiting all food groups? Also, must nightshades be taken out, or only if your AI issue is gastro related? Thank you!Stefanie
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted July 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 30, 2015 Once you've completed your Whole30, after you add things back to test them, go back to whole30 style eating and then experiment with eating the AIP things and eliminating them one by one. Pay close attention to how you feel after eggs, peppers, etc and see how you fare.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 30, 2015 The reason you have to eliminate all off-plan foods when you do a Whole30 is that all off-plan foods negatively influence your health. You may not suffer obvious problems when you eat them, but they degrade your health. So to do a proper test of AIP protocol elimination foods, you have to be at your real, healthy baseline. Otherwise, you might misread what is causing what when you reintroduce.
misslindy
Hi I am wondering if anyone can help here. I did W30 x 2 then decided that I might need to do AI because I was not noticing any major changes. I apparently gained weight, added fat, lost muscle but was sleeping better, reduced (almost no) muscle and joint pain. I started the AI, meaning I took out coffee, green beans, Ghee and that was about all the change I had to make. I did increase my fish intake. I noticed increased bloating, constipation, horrible mood swings and disrupted sleep. I am wondering what to do next. I feel like I am gaining weight and not sure where to go from here. I want to continue with this way of eating as most of my blood work is good, but my thyroid antibodies are increased, my blood sugar is slightly elevated (no sugar intake for over 4 months and one piece of fruit daily) so something needs to be adjusted. I am wearing smaller clothes--or was. I didn't have any problem on W30 and no issues with staying on the programme, now it seems I am fighting wanting a sugar fix constantly, feeling depressed and miserable, low energy. I did have a coffee this morning and honestly my energy level and mood improved amazingly. Thanks. Lindy

Have you seen a functional medicine practitioner? I wonder if the changes that would help you are beyond food, at this point?
