Rachilia
I like to cook so finding new recipes and doing all the meal prep hasn't been an issue. Where my problem comes in is that I am already bored with what we are eating (doing this with my husband). From another post I made it was suggested I post my a few days of my food log to get some suggestions on changes I can make. I feel like if I could make some good sauces to add to the proteins and veggies that would help change things up. The few I have tried were not very good. I did order some Tessamae's but they haven't arrived yet. Breakfast - sweet potato hash with 2 eggs, 1/2 avocado, pico de gallo OR another favorite is a breakfast burger patty (hamburger and sausage mixed) topped with eggs 1/2 avocado, and pico de gallo. We have also thrown in some plantains and yucca occasionally as my husband is from Venezuela and these are very common there. Lunch - some kind of protein (typically chicken or beef), a veggie side such as butternut squash puree with roasted garlic (YUM!), a salad with some protein added (bacon, hard boiled egg, or grilled chicken). I also purchased a tool to create veggie noodles which we have had on several occasions for lunch or dinner. Dinner - another kind of protein (pork or sausage), a veggie side like roasted peppers and onions with ghee, a salad (figs and prosciutto is a new fave), we recently had the poached pears with raspberry sauce as a treat and it was delicious! We also made the chocolate chili our first week and it was fabulous! My husband and I do feel great but neither of us have really felt much of a difference in our bodies except bloating. It is starting to bring us down a bit but we are definitely committed to our Whole30 which is why I am asking for some help to get us through!! Plus, I have to travel for 2 days next week which is really worrying me as I know lunches will be provided and a dinner at a restaurant will also be likely for 1 night with a large group of coworkers that I can't bail out on. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Cajun Gypsy
It's funny - I just started looking up sauces this afternoon, looking to jazz up my meals a bit. I have said this several times in other threads, but I highly recommend The Clothes make the Girl blog - do a search for Whole 30, it has loads of sauces, as does her cookbooks. She also has some interesting meal plans that could help with things I also recommend Everyday Paleo and Nom Nom Paleo for lots of great ideas. GFChris
Salad greens and raw veggies can cause bloat. I'd suggest switching to all cooked veggies for a few days and see if that brings you any relief. Do you like fish or seafood? You could try rotating those proteins in, so you're not having 100% meat. If you're drinking any sparkling water or other carbonated beverages, I'd suggest dropping those for a bit, as they can cause bloat. How much still water are you drinking daily? Aim for at least 1/2 an ounce of water per pound of body weight, daily. Note that when eggs are your sole protein, the serving size is the number of whole eggs you can hold in one hand without dropping them. For most folks, that's 3-4 eggs. Side notes:- is your bacon, sausage and prosciutto compliant? (Note that bacon is closer to a fat than a protein on a Whole30.)- the poached pears with raspberry sauce sounds kind of desserty, which really isn't in the spirit of a Whole30
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted August 5, 2015 Moderators Share Posted August 5, 2015 I second the recommendation for Clothes Make the Girl. She's the best when it comes to flavor profiles and seasonings to keep things interesting. As far as not feeling 'different' enough, please remember this is a 30 day program, don't give up! Bloating is totally normal. Make sure you're drinking 1/2oz of water per pound of body weight... that should help with the bloating as well! Rachilia
@CajunGypsy and SugarCubeOD - I have found these same sites and they have been helpful. I looked up a bunch of recipes before our Whole30 but need to look again for other ideas. Thanks! @GFChris - I do drink enough water, this is a habit I have had for years now after kicking the diet coke habit at least 10 yrs ago. We did purchase some La Croix and have been having about 1 a day but I will cut that out for a few days and see if it helps. Most of the veggies we eat are cooked, only the lettuce for salads is not. The bacon was from WholeFoods, the only brand with no sugar (I believe Wellshire Farms - it is kind of gray in color after cooking, not very appealing, and we aren't big bacon eaters so not sure I will buy again). I have been checking labels on everything so we are definitely Whole30 compliant. The poached pears recipe was in "It Start with Food" so I figured it was ok. It was a one time treat I don't plan on making again during the remaining Whole30. I am typically having another protein with my eggs. I have found if I don't I am hungry too early, have lunch too early, then am ravenous before dinner. I had a Larabar the other day that I really didn't want to eat but it was the only thing I had available to me at work (Key Lime - Whole30 compliant). On to the next 17 days of the program! Thanks for your suggestions, will be doing some more searching on the Paleo sites recommended.
