jhcowan
I am currently on Day 21 of my Whole30 and like a lot of the changes that are happening. However, I am frustrated with how to fuel my workouts. I figure skate 3 times per week, which is similar to doing HIIT for 90 minutes! I also run intervals 2x per week and lift 2x per week. I have no energy and can barely get through a workout, nothing like I used to be. How many grms of carb should I be shooting for?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 11, 2012 Moderators Share Posted September 11, 2012 You should not be counting grams, but you could eat a sweet potato every day to make sure you are getting enough clean carbs. Or if not sweet potatoes, you could eat butternut squash, turnips, yucca...
Megan Claydon
I'm with Tom...don't try to calculate the perfect grams of carbs for the amount of work. Have the sweet potato right after you workout and see how your workouts go during the week.
jhcowan
Thanks! What about eating carbs BEFORE the workout? I know the book says no, but I had really relied upon that in the past.
Luke91
As your body becomes adapted to using protein and fat as energy you should be eating these prior to a workout. Continuing to eat carbs prior to your exercise may be why you are lacking in energy during the workout as your body is looking for fat or protein to fuel itself. A handful of macadamia nuts may be all it takes.
