Becky1979
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I don't really like to drink cold liquids, so I drink a lot of herbal teas - mainly jasmine tea and green tea. However I have very porous teeth and so they get stained easily. I've just been to the dentist and she advised me it's the tannin in these drinks that stains my teeth and I would be better off drinking tannin free teas. I wasn't aware such a thing existed - does anyone know of any tannin free teas and where I could buy them in the UK? I do love green tea though
missmary
tea without tannins isn't really tea, but an infusion of dried herbs. Herbal tea. Camomile is an example, or mint. Some herbal teas do have tannins too, though, so be careful. Hibiscus is one. I don't know for sure, but I wonder if some varieties of regular tea have less tannins than others. White tea, for example might have less? Let us know if you research this, others might be interested.
jmcbn
I like this China White Monkey tea - very relaxing & very pale....As for the staining on your teeth, have you tried Oil Pulling?

I've done a bit of research and it agrees with your suggestion that some teas have more tannins than others. However there is not much agreement on which have more than others. Some sources suggest that white tea has more than green tea, but others that black tea has the most of all. This leads me to think that if tannin is really an issue (I've also learnt that people who are anaemic should avoid it as it blocks the uptake of iron - who knew?!) then it's probably best to avoid tea and stick to herbal infusions or tisanes as they are sometimes called. I'll investigate these further to find out which I like and probably stick to one or two per day of my beloved white and green teas. Thanks for your input. Becky1979
I like this China White Monkey tea - very relaxing & very pale.... As for the staining on your teeth, have you tried Oil Pulling? I love white tea too, and this one looks lovely, but I've since learnt that white tea has tannins too, perhaps more than green tea, so I'll have to keep that to a minimum. Apparently the colour of the tea has no bearing on its staining properties but it's the amount of tannin that counts, so pale coloured teas can be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Great tip though about oil pulling, thank you. I had no idea it could help reduce tooth staining and I also didn't know it was possible to do it with lovely coconut oil. Perhaps I'll give that a try. Thanks for taking the time to reply with these links.
aspen71
I recently starting drinking Guayusa "tea." It has as much caffiene as a cup of coffee but no tannins, so I can drink it without sweetener.
