Anne T
OK, I started two days ago. I'm so excited and determined to do this Whole 30, and yet I'm already struggling, in part because of my stupid brain (and/or body), which has a really hard time with foods it (thinks it) doesn't like. Yesterday, I made zoodles for the first time to have with spaghetti sauce. I didn't cook them (which I think others say to do), but I struggled with eating the meal, because the taste was just slightly off, but mostly because I knew it was zucchini, not pasta. Today, I ate a cold hard-boiled egg. I like hard-boiled eggs! Apparently not cold, though, because my gag reflex struck again. Sorry to be so graphic here, but I'm wondering - are there others like me who have a really hard time with newer foods, and especially veggies? I'm hoping and praying after a few exposures, I'll get better. Because if I don't, eek!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted August 17, 2015 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2015 I can't imagine eating zucchini noodles without cooking them. Gagging about raw zoodles seems appropriate to me. Unless you are gagging about so many foods that you are running out of things to eat, I'd say just move on to something else. Gagging may have something to so with the size of your bites. Try smaller bites to minimize or eliminate your gag reflex.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted August 17, 2015 Administrators Share Posted August 17, 2015 Raw zucchini noodles are not awesome. I do not cook them, perse, but I do put the hot sauce on them and let it sit a minute so the heat of the sauce cooks them. Raw zucchini in any form is not awesome, come to think of it. Cold hard boiled eggs are a little strange sometimes too. Also a bit hard to digest. What did you eat prior to Whole30? Do you enjoy meats and veggies? Do you feel like you need tips/tricks and recipes for veggies and meats? Or are you naturally an easy gagger?
Britishgal
I have no food aversions at all, I eat everything, but I wouldn't like to eat raw zoodles or ice cold boiled eggs... I'd try them both again...warm

Anne T
Hooray! Maybe it's just the dumb things I did with my food! I don't think I'm an easy gagger, but then again, the nectarine I ate this morning did it, and I like nectarines! So who knows - it's day 3 and my body is on rebellion. I did have a chicken breast and baked white potato last night, and steak and broccoli this morning, since I like all of those things. I do want to build in variety. Thanks for the help above!
