Vegan retires---> Newbie meat eater/1st Whole30

Today is actually day 2 of my very first Whole 30.

Vegetarian/Vegan/Avid Juicer turning to meat for the first time since 3rd grade....and I'm totally nervous and conflicted about adding animal meat to my diet. So far, I can only bring myself to eat chicken/turkey and eggs. Not ready for red meat yet. My meat eating husband (also doing the whole30) is more than estatic that I'm doing this. 2 years post partum with my first and only child and I'm still in a complete fog, barely getting by. No energy, no enthusiam and zeal for life like I once had. After a 60 day juice fast, I lost 40 lbs and kept it off eating raw vegan. But still, my hormones and energy levels were whack.

Hoping whole30 retrains my desperate body.

Starting weight: 200lbs even

Will measure tonight with my husband.

Going to take a photo of my face everyday (w/out makeup) so I can track changes with breakouts/facial changes. Just for curiosity's sake.post-76901-0-57744700-1439922836_thumb.jpost-76901-0-57744700-1439922836_thumb.jpost-76901-0-57744700-1439922836_thumb.jpost-76901-0-57744700-1439922836_thumb.j

You are lovely, and I wish you well.  Have you had your thyroid checked?  Mine was wacko after my 3'd child and it took a while (years) to get it straightened out. I had to be pro-active with my MD.  You might want to see a specialist (endocrinologist) for a more thorough and accurate interpretation of all the results, as most just look at the T4.  Anyway, I'm on Day 20 of my first, but at age 69, I am just hoping to have better energy, sleep, and less chronic pain.  so far the Tiger Blood hasn't kicked in, but I'm sleeping better and have less back pain and only one headache.  Best of luck!

Take it easy, and use good food sources. Some people that I know will get their meat and eggs from a co-op. I assume some of your reasons for being vegan for so long were ethical, so maybe knowing exactly who farms your meat will help. Good luck!

Hi, Wholesydney.  I have only been vegan/vegetarian for about a year, but I have noticed my energy levels are lower than I like, despite eating real, whole foods. I am starting Whole30 low FODMAPs tonight. I am fortunate to live in an area where humanely raised meat is readily available, and I plan on sourcing chicken, pork and beef from local farmers as much as possible. And I am going to limit my animal protein to the necessary 60 grams for my weight and activity level.  Plenty of room for fresh vegetables!

May I suggest that instead, you use satiety cues and the Whole30 meal template recommendations of 1-2 palms of protein per meal to determine your protein portion size? We discourage against using macros on a Whole30.
