Sunflower4Me
Day 1: Hello! Introducing myself - I'm Alex! I am just starting a Whole 30 today, and I would love some support or fellow 30 teammates. Just had a green smoothie for breakfast and off to the farmer's market to buy some essentials. I hope to post daily to keep myself on track! How is everyone else doing? Anyone also starting today?
jmcbn
Hi Alex & welcome to Whole30 I just posted this reply on one of your other posts... Hi AOndik Unfortunately smoothies are not recommended on Whole30 for two reasons - they tend to be fruit heavy, and when taken in the morning as you have done, cause a spike in blood sugar which is followed by a crash, and also because they are less satiating then actually eating food as it is the act of chewing that kick starts the digestion process - so effectively the go through the system without the body having really been aware that you'e 'eaten'.Here's the official take on it: Smoothies: We’d rather you didn’t This is a very popular question, with a very unpopular answer. Smoothies (generally made using lots of fruit) are technically compliant on your Whole30, but we strongly recommend against it. Food that you drink sends different satiety signals to your brain than food that you chew. So when you drink your meal, your brain isn’t getting the feedback it needs to tell your body that it’s had enough of what it needs. Plus, smoothies are generally really fruit-heavy, and starting your day off with a liquid sugar-bomb sets you up for cravings, hunger, and volatile energy levels throughout the day. In summary, we’d rather you just eat the food, and skip the smoothie. For best results stick to the meal template of proteins, veggies & fats, and avoid snacking on fruits/nuts/nut butters & bars and you'll go far................. Sunflower4Me
Yup, just saw your reply - thank you! I do want to do this as best as possible. The advantage to the Green smoothie was it let me squish in 3-4 veggies servings in the morning. I imagine a better alternative would be throwing all those veggies in with an egg for a veggie heavy and healthy breakfast? Thanks for the response, it's nice to know people are actually there to help out!

A serving of eggs when it's your only protein in a meal is as many whole eggs as you can hold in one hand. I can do four when I'm hungry!
Sunflower4Me
Great, cause I LOVE eggs. Day 1 - Success! Went to the farmer's market and stocked up on lots of veggies and cage-free eggs (so expensive). I cleaned and cut all the veggies and made a huge mixed green salad that is sitting, inviting me to it, in the fridge. I had it for lunch with some balsamic chicken. Dinner was a clean pulled pork with roasted asparagus, a small sweet potato, and broccoli. I also chopped and combined all my veggies for my omelette tomorrow so all I have to do is grab a handful and get crackin!
