hello all

Is having fruit at night a bad thing? I am a sugar addict ( Chocolate candy, ice cream and cookies ) I am on my second day. I am also wondering what would be a good salad dressing I would appreciate any Ideas or comments.

Thanks

Welcome to Whole30.  Fruit on its own is not recommended.  It sounds a lot like you are wanting to use fruit as a replacement for your sugar cravings?  This is also definitely not recommended.  If you are trying to get out from under a Sugar Dragon, the best thing to do is starve it out, not give it the sweetness of fruit.  Protein and fat are good if you absolutely have to eat something, otherwise it's a bit of a mental thing you have to push through.

Here's a thread about salad dressings:  http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/10379-salad-dressings-whats-your-favorite/

what about ranch dressing or small red potato's (just baked in oven) also what about pears, strawberries, grapes, apples pineapple?

I am on my going on my fifth day and I feel good I also starting walking for 30 min every other day I hope that helps I really need to lose a lot of weight I know this will be a process and hope to continue for a life time not just thirty days. I was on a Paleo diet a few years ago and did very well but I just went back to my old ways. I hope to do this deal all the way. What are good snacks on the whole 30? anyone have any good snack ideas while on this whole 30?

The idea is to avoid snacking, for optimal hormonal balance. Create meals of 1-2 palms of protein, 1-3 cups of veggies, and an approved fat that satiate you for 4-5 hours. Have the first meal within an hour of waking.

Until you get to that place, if you're genuinely hungry between meals (litmus test: you could eat something bland like steamed fish and broccoli), the recommendation is to have a mini meal of protein, carb and fat, or at least two of those components. So potatoes and compliant ranch dressing would be ok. Or a fist sized piece of fruit with protein or fat would work.

ok thanks Chris

store bought ranch Like the Hidden Valley brand would be ok? what about the fruits  mentioned would they be OK/

No on the dressing, Hidden Valley Ranch is going to have dairy and other off plan ingredients. There are plenty of compliant homemade recipes out there. You can eat any fruit you like, but we recommend following the guidelines with fruit that LadyShanny so kindly posted above. Roasted red potatoes are fine as well.

Here is the ingredient label for Hidden Valley ranch dressing. It is not compliant because it contains several off-plan ingredients:

- soybean oil

- sugar

- buttermilk

- soy

- monosodium glutamate (MSG)

Here are the Whole30 program rules for your review. You might want to take another look at them, and be sure you're always label-reading throughout the process.

one more thing all

what about nuts almonds, pistachio's, macadamia's, cashews, or pecans?

This information is listed in the rules, as Chris posted for you above. http://whole30.com/whole30-program-rules/ the answer is yes, as long as they do not contain off-plan ingredients like soybean oil, etc., but remember that nuts are not the best source of fat, and snacking is not recommended. Save them for garnish on a salad or similar uses in meals.
