BVOLF
After feeling itchy ears--which is my reaction to gluten; which I have known for a very long time; I looked into the brown mustard I put in my mayonnaise. Its GLUDEN's mayo and it indeed is not guaranteed that it doesn't have gluten...NEWS FLASH, it feels like it does. Have I ruined this entire process and do I need to start over? The ingredients are only Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Salt, Spices, Turmeric. AAAHHH

(Whole30 just goes by the ingredients list, and nothing in that list is considered non-compliant). If you're certain that you had gluten, you want to go at least 30 days without gluten before reintroducing it, if you plan to reintroduce it. It sounds like you know you have some reaction to gluten, so it may be something you decide is not worth reintroducing at all.
missmary
Good discussion. I'm moving this to troubleshooting.
Britishgal
Does it have a "may contain traces" or "made in factory that..." warning? I am allergic to wheat (my eyes itch, weep and swell so similar) and I have had reactions to products with this warning ;(
BVOLF
It does not say "made in a factory with" but I have noticed countless "stuff" on the shelf that say's this and have been smart enough to avoid them. I always pay for gluten, and it is an immediate reaction--I would say 45 seconds to itching and less than five minute to acne on my face. This is from one Tsp of mayo with 1 T in an entire recipe of this mustard. UNBELIEVABLE. And now that you mention it, I had an eye that was really watery---it isn't any more. AND my gums no longer bleed when brushing or flossing. All probably easily attributed to gluten. I get the same reaction with sugar that is not honey or stevia. (which of course Im not using right now.)
Britishgal
My eyes react quickly too which is one reason why they have diagnosed an allergy not an intolerance...may be worth seeing a dr, they are talking about prescribing epi pen for mine as it is getting worse ;(
GFChris
Sounds like you're highly sensitive to something in the mustard. Could have been one of the "spices." As Shannon said, you didn't break any Whole30 rules, but you got a big lesson learned: stay away from that mustard.
BVOLF
Thats an interesting comment because I remember a spice I used now having a similar reaction--Turmeric? Is this common? it was in the mustard and spice blend
Chachers04
White vinegar can sometimes contain gluten, I believe it's aka "malt vinegar" ?? Sorry you had a bad reaction!!! Gluten in the worst
GFChris
White vinegar can sometimes contain gluten, I believe it's aka "malt vinegar" ?? Sorry you had a bad reaction!!! Gluten in the worst White vinegar and malt vinegar are two completely different types of vinegar. Only malt vinegar contains gluten. If malt vinegar was in a product, it would need to be identified as such.
