CheryleB
I was going to piggyback onto the existing thread but decided to start my own. I am an almost 53 year old woman and started the whole30 on June 12. Other than a few ounces of wine in the last week, I have stayed true to the program the entire time. I was feeling great for the first two months but have been waking up after about 3 hours of sleep almost every night for 3 weeks. There is no light in the room (I have blackout blinds behind curtains) and the house is quiet. Regardless of the time I go to bed, I wake up between 2:00 and 3:30. I got to the washroom without lights and back to bed. I occasionally doze off a bit but am usually up around 4:00 and just bum around and read until it is time to get ready for work. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Other differences I have noticed are that my nails are brittle and easily break the last few weeks and my sinus headaches which went away within 4-5 days of eliminating dairy, are now back. I used a steroid puffer yesterday for the first time in months. Any idea what could be causing this?
GFChris
By any chance, are you in menopause? Other than that, are you consuming caffeine after noon? Some folks have issues with alcohol affecting their sleep. How late are you drinking beverages (alcohol or not)? How's your current stress level? Can you also post a few days of what your eating has been like and we can see if anything else stands out?
CheryleB
Hi again. Sorry to have posted and disappeared. I don't drink caffeine after about 9:00 am and have only had two glasses of wine in the last 3 months (I am not much of a drinker). I tried to be more aware of other things that were happening and was getting muscle cramps fairly often. I started taking magnesium, vitamin D and calcium before bed and noticed an improvement in my sleep within a few days. I am still not sleeping well but better than I had been before. I am up to 5-6 hours per night which sounds poor but is much better than it had been. thanks for the suggestions.
jmcbn
Glad to hear you've found some improvement - you could also take a serving of starchy veg with meal three if you're not already doing so.
