Omega's and Vit D

Hey guys,

I live in the UK, so posting about Vitamins we can get here on Amazon / in pharmacies.

So, questions:

Omega 3, 6, 9 supplement.

This one is called Zestlife:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zestlife-1000mg-Omega-High-Strength/dp/B007R3OGEE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441119711&sr=8-1&keywords=zestlife+omega+3+6+9

It has sunflower (290mg), flaxseed and fish oil.

I'm concerned about the sunflower oil because it's a seed oil.

Does anyone have any views on this?

Vitamin D supplemant (we don't get much sun in the UK!):

Doctors Best.

This one is derived from lanolin (sheep wool) - again, does anyone have any views on this?

Thanks in advance!

gareth

You probably don't need more omega 6 or 9 in your life. Most diets are only deficient in omega 3s. Don't be fooled by marketing that suggests more is more. In this case, more is less. Find something that is simple fish oil with DHA and EPA. Other sources of omega 3s are poorly utilized by the human body, so flax, for example, is not a useful source.

The Vitamin D is okay.

I believe fish oil is totally amazing, the numerous controlled studies supporting it for positive results on cardiac health alone turn it into a must for me personally. Less expensive omega 3's will usually contain a 120mg/180mg DHA/EPA proportion and more costly product could have around 280mg/300mg.  I have not found any ideal ratio of EPA/DHA to consider, 2:1 /3:2 is most typical. Go for about 1g of DHA/EPA daily.

So, why do you no longer take fish oil? This sort of changes the thread, but I'm curious about why you say "Back when . . . "  Thanks.

I'm not Tom, but I'm going to guess it's because he actually eats enough fish and other real foods containing omega 3 that he now longer needs a supplement.  Real food sources > supplements.
