LeslieGM
I make a great herbal tea with peppermint, sage, oat straw and alfalfa. Compliant?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2015 You cannot consume the grain itself even as a tea. I suppose the straw or leaves of the plant would be okay, but I cannot give it an enthusiastic endorsement because I just do not know how different the straw is from the grain. Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted September 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2015 From what I can gather, Oat Straw is the leaves and stem of the oat plant and not the grain, and based on historical information allowing the 'green part' of a plant instead of the seed/grain, it seems like it would be okay... there is a saying here at Whole30 tho... 'if in doubt, leave it out'.
LeslieGM
It is definitely the straw, I buy the dried ingredients separately at the local health food store and then mix them. And the straw is only 20% of the mix (peppermint is half). So I think I'll go for it. All my other herbal teas in the house (Celestial Seasoning types) are non-compliant because they have soy. I like a cuppa tea when watching TV at night so it's not like I'm drinking gallons of it!! Day 3!!! So far so good but I really wish they wouldn't have the rack of chocolate bars at the checkout! Thanks for the advice.
