Lfrederick
I realize that snacks are against the principles of the whole30...however, I'm a nurse so the days that I'm working (shift is from 7AM-7PM) I eat breakfast at 0630 and often times I'm not able to eat lunch until 1 o'clock, and even if I eat lunch at 1, my dinner won't be until around 7:30-8 PM when I get home. All that to say it's hard to avoid having 6-8 hours between meals. I'm always hungry for the next meal by 4-5 hours but I have to wait based on what's going on with my patients. Do you have any reccomendations? I'm just on day 5 and I've found myself eating a lot of nuts between meals to hold me over, but I feel like that's probably not the best option considering how high in fat they are. Thanks so much! GFChris
Yeah, we don't expect you to create meals that last you over 6 hours. If you have a larger stretch between meals, and you get genuinely hungry, the recommendation is a mini meal of protein, carb and fat, or at least two of the components. Nuts are a fat on a Whole30, so add a protein, veg and/or fruit to those nuts. Try not to make nuts your top fat choice, as nuts are to be limited on a Whole30. Can you make some homemade mayo and then some egg, chicken, tuna or salmon salad with it and take that with you to work in an insulated bag? A couple bites of that would work as a mini meal. Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 11, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 11, 2015 You could plan 4-5 meals on long working days and eat them as you can. It would be much better if you ate the food of real meals and avoid "snack" foods like nuts, fruit, etc.
