dripdripsplat
Although the ingredients seem okay, I have gotten differing stories on whether or not it is Whole30 approved. I found a few posts about Costco's bacon in the forums, but nothing saying a definite yay or nay. The ingredients list says: Cured with: water, salt, sodium phosphate, sodium erthorbate, sodium nitrite. Smoked with natural hard woods. Also, is cooking with rendered bacon fat okay during the Whole 30 (assuming that the fat was rendered from Whole30 compliant bacon)?
dripdripsplat
Sorry, I'm not really that impatient about finding out the answer that I would post the topic 3 times... My computer just went haywire. I apologize!
Robin Strathdee
dripdrip - 1) The bacon looks fine 2)...but it's conventionally-raised (read: factory farmed) pork, so there are going to be a ton of nasties in the fat. DON'T cook with it. And, since bacon's a pretty fatty meat, limit your consumption of the meat, too.
Susan W
I have not seen such bacon at my Costco. I did see a "salt free" version which many have said is very icky. Yours looks okay...no sugar. It's very hard to find "no sugar" bacon.
