Lamamama
My husband, 6 year old son and myself started the program on Monsay 9/21. This morning my son woke up (after usual 10 hours of sleep) being very lathargic. He complained yesterday that his belly was hurting and was very emotiona all day l. He cried over very random things. He was so tired this morning he fell asleep sitting on the couch. We checked his temperature and it was normal. He's been eating the compliment food and is enjoying it. Has other parents experienced this? My husband is concerned that maybe he shouldn't be doing the program with us. My son does LOVE his sugar so I'm thinking it's the detox that is causing it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 25, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2015 Could be the sugar withdrawal, for sure -- although that wouldn't explain the belly hurting. Is he eating a lot more vegetables than normal? Especially cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts)? Maybe he's gassy/constipated from the increased vegetables. Make sure he drinks plenty of water, and focus on cooked vegetables for a while, not raw. Also be sure that all of you are having at least a serving of starchy vegetables each day (sweet potato, potato, any of the winter squashes, root vegetables, jicama, plantain) -- that might help with the lethargy and for some people not having enough of them can affect their mood. If you want, you could list a few days' worth of food and water intake, with approximate portion sizes as it relates to his hand/thumb (per the meal template), and we'll see if anything stands out that might be causing problems. In general, there's nothing about eating protein, fat, veggies, and some fruit that would be bad for him.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 25, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2015 I would recommend at least two servings of starchy veggies per day.
Lamamama
Thanks for the suggestions. I think you may be correct with the cruciferous veggies. The last two days have been heavy with cauliflower rice and roasted broccoli. I've made sure that he hasn't had either of those today or intake any raw veggies. Today I made him some chicken broth with potatoes and zucchini. I'll lay off the broccoli and cauliflower and will increase the sweet potato and see how he does. Thank you!
