mrsblanks
Hey gang! On day 7 here, and doing good so far...although I'm really ready for tiger blood stage to kick in. Planning for next week and I'm going to make the recipe for chili in the Whole30 book. But, what I've read on here about soups confuses me. Do I eat a whole serving of veggies with my bowl of chili (or of soup)? How do you make it a complete meal? I plan on topping it with avocado, but that only gives me a protein and a fat. Any advice? What do you usually do??
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 30, 2015 Yes, you'll probably want to add some vegetables with your chili. It has some -- onion, bell peppers, a can of tomatoes -- but you'll probably want a little more than that. I notice in the book it suggests possibly serving the chili in half an acorn squash, that would be an option. Or over spaghetti squash or zoodles. Or have a salad on the side with it. Or if you want to just sneak them into the chili, cook some cauliflower until it's soft and blend it up then add it to the chili. For soups, if the soup is mostly vegetable, I'll either have my protein on the side, or chop it up and add it to the soup. If it's a soup with meat and vegetables in it (like a chicken and vegetable soup), just make sure you get a whole meal's worth of both -- sometimes, if there's a lot of broth, it can look like a lot of soup in the bowl, but not really have much stuff in it. SpunkyBug
Chili is really good on top of a baked sweet potato.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted September 30, 2015 I stir-fry enough fresh veggies to fill my plate and then top the veggies with chili. I use whatever veggies are seasonal - kale, spinach, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, etc.
MadscienceM
I like to top mine with some homemmade compliant coleslaw
loobylifts
When I make chili I usually serve it on a baked sweet potato or sweet potato mash. Feels like ultimate comfort food otherwise I like it with zoodles, cauliflower rice or just on a nice bed of greens for something lighter!
jent103
I like mine on top of roasted kabocha squash with avocado on top. Yum. I'll do some other vegetable on the side - slaw or something green or whatever.
kirkor
On top of spaghetti squash or something spiralized is good too.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted October 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 2, 2015 I like to top mine with some homemmade compliant coleslaw Oh yummy! Theoretically you could make your chili much spicier then too because of the cooling effect of the coleslaw!
kruddock
My absolute favorite is chili on top of roasted butternut squash.
