GFChris
You need to check the ingredient list for compliance. It's extremely tricky to find compliant deli meat. Many products have carrageenan, gluten, soy, sweeteners or other off-plan ingredients.Read the labels of any product you're interested in and compare them to the rules. Moderators Tom Denham Posted October 2, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 2, 2015 All deli meats are far from the kind of choices we want you to make when eating Whole30-style. We want you to eat real meat that has no ingredient list because it is pure, unprocessed meat. Although it is possible to find some compliant deli meats, you can do much better. kruddock
I have started making "Perfect Steak" from Well Fed 2 in my weekly cook up on Sunday. For meals/preWO snacks during the week, I slice it up very thin and dip in mayo/Dijon mustard, delish! You could also cook a roast or chicken breast and slice real thin. It is much better than deli meat and you don't have to worry about compliancy.

MTNan
In over 8 months of looking, I have yet to find a compliant deli meat. Granted I don't live in a big urban area, but I have been able to find compliant bacon, jerky, all sorts of things. But no deli meat. Read the labels and good luck. TriGirlD
This topic confuses me, because in the Dining Out Guide and some of the Surviving Business Functions topics, they suggest " be creative, order a sandwich and don't eat the bread." But how in the world could you eat deli meat from a restaurant and know it's compliant? I've searched and have not found compliant deli meat yet. I wanted something quick and easy to down for a pre-workout snack besides eggs. They also say in the Dining Guide to give yourself a break and do the best you can. This also seems in opposition to the whole sections of the Whole30 book talking about how even one bite, one lick of something off-plan and you have to start over. On ordering a sandwich and not eating the bread, you would do best with something like roasted chicken or turkey vs. deli meat. (confirming that the meats don't contain things like soy, gluten, sweeteners or carrageenan) On doing the best you can while dining out, that more refers to doing your due diligence in asking all the right questions on ingredients, seasonings, cooking fats, etc., and then trust that the server and kitchen will honor your requests. We don't expect you to follow the server into the kitchen and watch over the chef's shoulder, for example. If a salad comes to you with obvious cheese on it, for instance, and you explicitly ordered it without, send it back and request it without the cheese. Kim77
The only kind of "deli meat" i have found to be compliant are the Jennio turkey sticks, oven roasted variety only. They come in packs of 6, individually wrapped, and I usually eat 2 per meal, usually with a hard boiled egg.
mandikaye
The roasted turkey at Panera is compliant (at least in my area), so I could totally order their Roasted Turkey, Apple, Cheddar sandwich - with no bread, no cheddar, no apple slaw, or special sauce (leaving me with essentially turkey, tomato, lettuce, and adding mustard). coloradojg
How do you know the roasted turkey at Panera is compliant have you seen a label ? That was my last going out meal the day before I started the Whole30.
coloradojg
I have looked at Trader Joe's, whole foods, target and King Sooper. I saw the labels, even asked at the deli counter and did not find any that were compliant. most have sugar. I'm going to stick with grilling a lot of chicken breasts and using that . rflowers
The only compliant deli meat I found was moderately expensive prosciutto : salt & pork.
coloradojg
I finally found a compliant deli meat. Natural Grocers/Vitamin Cottage right by my house has Organic Prairie brand organic smoked turkey breast. I dont even like smoked turkey and was resigned to the fact that I was not going to have any deli meat but bought it anyway because I was so excited to find it. By the way many posters say Applegate Farms has some compliant meats, however, every package in every store I looked in contained carrageenan which I believe is Not Whole-30 compliant. As an aside, I was in Whole Foods and they had a whole case full of fresh prepared meals labeled with a sticker that said "Whole-30" compliant! I believe at least some varieties of Applegate Farms deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter is compliant - it's just the pre-sliced packaged stuff that has the carrageenan. CaGirl
I'm in Northern California and found sliced turkey from Applegate Farms.. nothing but turkey.. no carrageenan. nothing added.. makes for a great go to for quicky times. I got all excited and checked the herb turkey pkg. and of course it was full of off plan stuff.. But search around for the plain turkey one and read the package..
