Timing of meals - pre/post workout

Recommended Posts

I'm on Day 17 and I'm having trouble timing my meals and figuring out when to have the pre/post workout meals.

I wake up at 6, then immediately I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism and that has to be taken first thing in the morning. I have to wait an hour to eat after taking the meds, so I eat breakfast at 7. Usually I like to workout at 8 before sitting down to work at 9. (I work from home and get most of my work done between 7:30 and 3:30 when the kids are in school).

How am I supposed to fit in a pre workout meal, post workout meal, AND breakfast? I'm a little stumped and open to suggestions.

You could have breakfast at 7am, skip the preWO snack but make sure you have a postWO snack of lean protein+starchy veg right after your workout. That should carry you to lunchtime. From what I understand, the postWO snack is more important than the preWO snack. A mod may have some other ideas.

Kruddock's suggestion is good -- pre-workout is primarily for people who workout first thing in the morning, before breakfast, or several hours after eating a meal.

Post-workout is for replenishing glycogen levels to aid in recovery and is more important, especially if you're doing weight training or crossfit or other very demanding workouts. If you do something like gentle yoga, you probably don't need either pre- or post-workout. This article talks a little more about what you need post-workout.
