Sweeteners in between reintros

Also about reintros: is it worth reintroducing everything again, such as carrageenan and sweeteners separately, even though I've already had them with other reintroduced foods with no problems? Technically I am already done with reintros, but I want to still see if I can eat soy *sauce* and rice starch-thickened coconut yogurt.

I feel like there are just too many ways food can be prepared so that one's reactions to them are different, that my reintros will end up taking another month, as it is taking a whole month already!

Is this process really necessary, or should I just jump into soy sauce and the coconut yogurt without bothering to do a full Whole30-style eating in between?

Allia, it's really down to how specific you feel you want to be.  If you are specifically concerned about rice-starch thickened yoghurt then test it on its own.  If you really want to know how soy sauce is going to affect you, test it on its own.

There are really no hard and fast rules about what you must test, that comes down to how you are going to want to eat going forward.  The main recommendation is that when you are testing an item, you consume only it and keep the rest of your intake Whole30 compliant for several days afterwards in order to assess reactions.

What is the purpose of keeping the rest of the diet Whole30-compliant? There are too many foods in various forms I'd want to try and it seems to me that if say I suddenly want to test legumes at a later date and haven't had any legumes for a year, it's still accurate to randomly bring it back even if I've been consuming soy and sweeteners for that year. I'm concerned that I will never be able to reintroduce off-plan foods as part of my daily diet due to the need to reintroduce everything I want to eat haha.

Allia, I'm not a moderator, but my advice to you would be to keep the reintroduction process as simple and streamlined as possible. I realize you're already kind of deep into it, but maybe just back up, take a deep breath, and think back to the four basic reintroductions: legumes, non-gluten grains, dairy, and gluten. There is no specific call to reintroduce carrageenan or sugar or sweeteners. Those things just come along for the ride, so to speak. So maybe just accept those things as occasional intruders into your diet and leave it at that.

I just worry that you are running the risk of becoming overly obsessive about the process. It's good that you want to add back in foods that you feel are culturally appropriate or that you just want to eat. You did your Whole30, and based on what you shared, you weren't that pleased with the results. So why prolong the process any more than necessary?

Hey! :) I have weird reactions to different forms of things... I'm taking a really long time because I have reactions to certain forms of things but not others. I suppose that there's no need for reintros of additives/sweeteners, then. I will probably just accept carageenan, for example, as an intruder. I don't think they are as disruptive/major. I might consume them every day later on, but... oh well, I guess I'll just risk haha.

I do not want to be overly obsessed about this either, as what I was fearing! I don't criticize Whole30 specifically for the results; it was partly the fault of my digestive issues (solved now :D) and anxiety/stress. I'd like to take a really long time in reintros though; I'd love to eat soy sauce and fermented soy again even though tofu and edamame make me itchy.
