IowaSusan
I know sustainable, wild caught fish is mostly okay, but what about sashimi (so, no rice, no soy--JUST the raw fish)?? Is that compliant? I'm at work and someone asked if I wanted to go to dinner in a couple of hours, so I was just wondering. Also, is the wasabi compliant? I'm pretty sure the pickled ginger is not because of sugar, and I don't use soy. Thanks, and sorry if this is repeating a question. I'm new (R1D7!) and looked several pages in on this forum and couldn't find anything. Susan
missmary
Sashimi is fine. No pickled ginger, wasabi or soy sauce--unless you make the wasabi yourself from fresh horseradish it most likely has non-compliant ingredients in it (often corn starch). Fresh lemon is a nice compliant addition. Oh! and no miso soup (soy) or seaweed salad (sugar, soy), in case you were wondering, sorry
Zyriel
You might find some sushi places have broiled fish (such as mackerel) on their menu as well. If you confirm they use no soy to prepare this, it's a filling option too. The places I go just put salt and pepper on their broiled food and provide some steamed veggies on the side. They still put teriyaki on the veggies the first time though so I had to be dead clear that no soy OR teriyaki was to be put anywhere near my food.
