Day 9 still extremely tired and hungry.

Recommended Posts

I started my second W30 on the 5th. I am still so tired during the day and I'm also very hungry In between meals. I'm still BFing so I'm allowing a snack mid afternoon. I don't remember being this tired or wanting to give up so badly the first time I did this. My goal was to cut out the junk and refocus on whole foods and to get some energy back. Am I just exauhsted from being a toddler mom? Or am I still in adjustment phase of eating better?

Breastfeeding typically requires at least one extra full meal a day and then potentially snacks between those meals.  You can certainly (and should definitely) eat more while nursing.  What you want to avoid is constant, all-day grazing.  Eat your meals at regular intervals and then you can sip on coconut milk or snack on olives between those meals in order to keep your fats up.

You can give us a run down on what you've been eating if you like....but if you are not eating at least minimum template at least four times a day, start there.

My breakfast usually consists of at least two eggs, and sautéed veggies with lots of kale.

Lunch is often leftovers but is also a meat and raw veggies with lots of homemade sauce.

For a snack I'm eating nuts and dried fruit or grapes or an apple and almond butter. I suppose I should include a more solid protein for this snack and make it more of a meal.

Dinners vary a lot but follow solid guidelines similar to roasted chicken, Brussels sprouts, and roasted potatoes with a homemade sauce to increase fats.

Would an overall increase in food help with the tiredness?? By mid afternoon I'm just done. Naps are a no go. For one I just can't nap and also I work from home so I have to work during LOs nap.

Definitely not eating enough, Heather.  Eggs, when they are your protein, are as many as you can hold in your hand without dropping.  For most people a good start is 3-4 eggs.  And as I mentioned, we recommend that breastfeeding women have four full meals.  So yes, your snack needs to change to a full meal.  Dried fruits are pretty close to candy and when combined with nuts as a snack, can be problematic for some.  They will also raise and then crash your blood sugar which leads to that exhausted feeling.

Get that fourth meal going and then for snacks when needed, focus on protein and fat.

Edited to add:  you should also be drinking at least a half ounce of water per pound of bodyweight.  This is our recommendation for people who are not nursing.  For breastfeeding you need more.

That was another thing. I'm always thirsty! And I'm drinking well over half my body weight in ounces (at least I'm assuming. I haven't actually weighed myself in about a year but my clothes are all fitting the same so I'm at my average weight)

With all my meals I'm eating as much as I possibly can fit in my stomach. Almost uncomfortable full. i don't know how I can get more food in me.

Sorry I'm being difficult. I'm just not excited about this anymore.

You could try adding another serving of starchy veggie to your day and bumping up your fat. That way you aren't eating an insane volume of food but are getting the calories that you need.

You can try adding a bit of lemon to your water; lemon water is more thirst quenching than regular water.

Edited to add:  you aren't being difficult, it's ok.  :)
