beedee
Hi there everyone! I'm currently on Day 19 of my Whole30. I was feeling good up until around Day 15, when I started to have painful stomach cramps and lots of gas. I haven't really introduced any new foods in the span of 5 days, but it's been constant this week! Usually before M2, I'll have no appetite and have the stomach cramps. When I do eat, I've also felt uncomfortably full despite eating the usual amount I was eating for the first 14 days of my Whole30. Usually my hunger reappears before M3, but sometimes the uncomfortably full feeling carries on for the 5 hours between meals. After M3, the gas and cramps are still present. I've been trying to cut back on cruciferous vegetables and kick up my intake of bone broth to see if that helps, but I haven't really seen a difference! Has anyone else experienced something similar to the digestive distress that I am? Thank you!
jmcbn
The uncomfortably food feeling you describe could be caused by a number of things, and since removiing cruciferous veg isn't helping I'd wonder if you aren;t sensitive to FODMAPS - are you eating a lot of avocado for instance? Leeks, cabbage, garlic, apples, beets, onions, mushrooms..... These all cause me bloating & gas. Or are you eating a lot of dried fruit/nuts/nut butters? If you'd like to post a few days worth of your food log we can have a look and see if anything jumps out... beedee
Hi! Thank you so much for responding! I've been eating about 1/2 an avocado every day! I've been limiting nuts/nut butters/dried fruits this entire Whole30 to see if it made a difference for me, so I haven't really touched those for 19 days! Here's an average day: M1: Grass-fed beef patty + kale & mushrooms cooked in coconut oil + 1/2 an avocado M2: Can of wild salmon mixed with Whole30 mayo on romaine lettuce & spinach (drizzled with EVOO & ACV) + cucumbers + cherry tomatoes M3: Turkey burger + olives + roasted sweet potato + cauliflower & green beans & spinach cooked in ghee Usually I have more cruciferous veggies, but this is what I've been eating lately! Usually just one serving!
jmcbn
It's hard to say with just the one days worth of food to be honest. The problem could be cruciferous, or it could be FODMAPS - cauliflower falls into both categories, but mushrooms & avocadoes are both high FODMAP so if you were sensitive to FODMAPS eating all three of those items in one day would most certainly cause you stomach cramps & gas.I always though cruciferous veg were my problem until I excluded them & still had issues & when I looked a bit more closely I could see that I was eating beets, mushrooms, avocado & leeks on a regular basis - about a week after cutting those out all my stomach issues resolved.Take a look at this infographic for FODMAPS which shows which foods you should limit for best results.
