londonrome
I am on Day 23 of my Whole30. I am a 23-year-old woman who has always struggled with my weight. I'm 5'10" and weigh about 185...not terribly overweight, but I really should weigh about 20 pounds less. I had several friends who swore by Whole30 and I understood that it was more about being all-around healthy and less about losing weight. I ultimately decided to do Whole30 because I just felt gross, and I believed that this lifestyle would not only make me feel better but also help me lose weight in a healthy way. I thought that these 30 days would be incredibly difficult but rewarding. As it turns out, giving up all my favorite foods was much easier than I had anticipated. Sure, there were some difficult moments, but all in all it really has not been that hard. The hardest thing by far as been not being able to drink in social situations when everyone around me is drinking. I have stayed strong, though, and proudly sipped my sparkling water. Now, I am 23 days in. I am not going to quit simply because I've already made it so far. But I'm going to be honest - I am really, really pissed off and very frustrated. I feel like I have wasted these last 23 days of my life when I could have either been enjoying my life, OR been on a productive diet where I would actually lose weight. I have experienced NO results from Whole30. My primary goal was to lose weight, and I've been reading the emails everyday saying that sometimes the weight loss doesn't come til the very end and it's not about losing weight....I get that. BUT, I have not experienced any other benefits either. I am not sleeping better or more soundly. I have not noticed a difference in my complexion. I have not noticed a change in mood. I have not been anymore energized than normal. I do not feel physically different in anyway, whether it be from a lack of bloating, from less pain, less stomach upset, nothing. I tried to trust this diet/lifestyle change because I really, really want to believe in it. I have been fully faithful and only consumed compliant foods. I have been working out as much as possible and eating the right pre- and post- workout meals. From what I can tell, I am not doing anything wrong. Why is nothing happening and why should I bother making my life less fun for absolutely zero results?? I'm so frustrated! Any thoughts, help, or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted October 20, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 20, 2015 Hi londonrome, Sorry you are feeling frustrated. Hang in there, the good WILL come. Believe it! In the meantime, if you can list several days of what you've eaten and drank (and how much of each), your sleep habits/hours, stress levels, exercise, caffeine intake, tv/screen habits, we can help troubleshoot. Carlaccini
I second the comment about listing your meals for the last few days. But I will also make a suggestion to you that you seem to be looking at things from the wrong perspective. I sense a ton of negativity from you - and that's not healthy. Take a deep breathe and maybe start shifting your focus a bit. You seem to be focusing a lot on what you can't have and what this program isn't giving to you. Instead try to shift you focus to what you CAN have. Not what you can't. If you focus too much attention on what you can't have - it will have long term negative affects on how you complete you program. You can complete the program fighting it the whole way saying I can't have X and I really want X, and why I can't I have X? Or you can go at from the mindset of - ok I don't eat for X for 30 days - fine it's not going to leave the planet in that amount of time, but in the meantime what CAN I have that is delicious and I think I will enjoy? cayenne
No one has EVER wasted time eating healthy. I suspect you may not have done the damage to your body that , say, a 50 year old has done. Therefore the "benefits" may not be as noticeable in you. As i remember what I was like at 23, no one accused me of having a ton of insight:) So for you to embark on this journey now is quite exceptional. Some of the lessons you are learning now can carry over-you can now say you have gotten control with food, can get control with food, and that is a huge thing to learn so young. Hopefully, you will not be struggling with food issues at
MeadowLily
I'm speaking in general and about Whole 30 in particular. Awhile back, there was someone who was kicking and screaming the entire time. Many tried to talk her down and out of her unwillingness to not make any judgment calls until Day 31. She wasn't having it. Months later she came back after stacking all her weight back on and really being disgusted with herself. She was going to start over but I've never seen her again. That happens and it saddens me that she wasn't willing the first go-around. It takes true grit. Branded diets will come and go. They make big promises. Drop it like it's hot. With high expectations of rapid weight loss comes rebound weight gain from over-restriction. A Whole 30 ....compliant without complaint does a body and mind well. If we get the mind on board - the body will follow and it learns to enjoy the entire process.

Brewer5
I have been working out as much as possible And how much is that, exactly? There can be too much of a good thing.
londonrome
Not that much. Maybe two times a week. I usually work out about 4 times per week but I've been really busy with work while I've been on Whole30, so even though I've been working out "as much as possible," it's only been about 2-3 times per week. What kind of portion sizes are we talking about here? The only clear one was the lamb chops and squash for dinner. 3 mini lamb chops is probably not a palm sized portion of protein so I'd say that is light. Did you work out yesterday?
