Really needed a snack tonight... was this okay?

Hiya.  It's day 20 for me and I don't think I've been eating quite enough with a recent increase in my fitness programme.  For the past few days I've been starving.  Tonight, I had a lighter dinner earlier (kids off to sports, etc) so I really needed something else yet I'm exhausted from a long day so just dug into two fresh figs and a few slices of pastrami.  This has really satisfied me so I'm not feeling the need to add anything else to make it a complete meal.  Is that okay?  

 

This is officially the first time I've snacked outside of meals so feeling a bit weird.

 

Also, I would normally never eat at night as that's a real trigger point for me, but I do feel like this was needed today due to the small dinner I had and the sluggish feeling.  Hoping this is gone by tomorrow.

 

Advice?

Yep, this is fine - the recommendation for snacks if you genuinely need them is to have at least two of the three food groups which you covered perfectly, and with a lighter meal a long day and the sluggish feeling you did the right thing.

We don't want you to be hungry!

As for it being a trigger I'd just pay attention over the next few nights that eat enough at meal 3 & you don't just start developing a new habit....

It is better to eat something than to suffer with hunger, but it is time to get serious about eating enough. You said you had not been eating enough for several days and then you had a light dinner because other things were more important than eating enough. It is time to eat three substantial meals per day and to make sure you eat enough in relationship to your exercise by consuming pre- and post-workout meals.
