Reintroduction Pains

Hey all,

Last night was my first night reintroducing after my first Whole30. I had a glass of really great red wine. I ate Whole30 all day and didn't introduce anything else.

I had a rough night afterwards though. First off I ended up falling asleep by 9pm like it was my first glass of wine in my entire life. I then woke up around midnight and was feeling pretty foggy. It took me until 2:00am to get back to sleep but was awoken every half hour or so afterwards with weird muscle pains in my arms and legs. I also had a massive headache.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I intend to do the full two days back on Whole30 before I reintroduce legumes, however I am more nervous then I was before day 31. If this is how I am going to feel reintroducing certain things I'd almost rather not.

What were some of your most notable aggravations reintroducing foods?

The only way to know is to do the re-intros tho... if you don't, then you'll end up at a Christmas dinner function where your grandma made her famous Pecan Pie and your aunt made HER famous Homemade Pumpkin Ice Cream and you wont' know which one to pick because you wont' know how grains (pie) and dairy (ice cream) each react.

If you're the type of person who has very drastic reactions, you may want to plan your reintro days on a day where you are not expected to be in tip top shape the next day... so maybe Friday or Saturday night instead of a weeknight... then you can at least mitigate some of the damage from lack of sleep or headache etc...

Dairy brought back my rosacea and joint swelling from an old injury. Wine also flared my rosacea, but not as much as dairy. After my first W30, I wasn't as careful about how I did reintros so I didn't get the benefit of really learning about about how some foods adversely affect me. Finished my second one a few weeks ago and am doing it much more carefully. It's so much better to know than to guess or learn the hard way.

Ditto what Mistyfire said. After my first W30 I didn't think I wanted to change anything, but things do creep in anyway and often two (or three, or more) things will show up in the same dish (lasagne, for instance... dairy + wheat). I am now doing reintros after my second Whole30, and even if I don't want a particular item back in my life, I do want to know how it affects me. This way, if a family members serves me something I don't normally eat (a really BIG possibility!) I will know if I can easily tolerate a little bit and then just eat a little bit, or if it sends me for a loop in which case I will decline, or if it's tolerable with only relatively minor discomfort the next day in which case I'll probably just be polite & eat what someone lovingly made for me. Eventually I would also like to figure out if something I reintroduce with no adverse effects, might generate an adverse reaction if I eat it over a period of a few days, or in combination with other things.

But ditto what SugarCubeOD said too. When I started my re-intros I pulled out a calendar and I fit my re-intro days around those important days & meetings when I wanted to be at my best and not in the middle of a reaction. I also got knocked off schedule when it took longer than 3 days to feel my best following the gluten re-introduction.

I think the re-intros are worth doing unless you already know you can't tolerate one of the suggested foods.
