Sweet Potatoes if a person is not active?

I have been on the Whole30 for 45 days now and have only lost 8 pounds. I think I am eating too many sweet potatoes.  I roast them and eat them with breakfast and then have one with dinner in the evening. Since I am not active, is this too much?

Um, I must be missing something, because you did say you lost 8 pounds right?  ;)

That's a nice pace of weight loss: a little over a pound a week.

What other non-scale victories have you noticed?

I say keep doing what you're doing.

8 pounds in 6 weeks is a very healthy rate of weight loss.

Our basic recommendation for starchy veggies is to start with one "fist-size" portion per day and add more if you are active, or if you have issues with mood or energy, or if you are breastfeeding or pregnant or if you just want a little more and it feels/tastes good to you. That said, each person has a unique context. Yours allowed you to lose weight eating two sweet potatoes of unknown size per day. If I were you, I would keep going with the sweet potatoes because they are working great. In fact, changing things might lead to weight loss stopping or slowing down. I wouldn't reduce starchy veg at all, but I might consider switching up the sources some--potatoes, carrots, jicama, winter squash, plantains, etc.

EDIT: Chris and I posted simultaneously. Same message. Although her's was much more succinct.

I misspoke earlier...I lost the 8 pounds in the intial 30 days. I have gained a pound since and I feel fatter. I also have been eating fruit twice a day and a little juice in the morning. I just feel I am relying on the potatoes. I do eat all types of squash from yellow to zucchini to winter squash. I also do not think I am getting enough protein.  As far as other victories the only thing I have noticed is my skin looks better on my face, but I itch all over.

On the feeling fatter, you might be bloated.  Itching all over could be due to your body disagreeing with something you're eating.

Yellow and zucchini squash are not starchy vegetables: winter squash are.

Are you eating a particular food in more volume than previously?

On the juice, the recommendation is only to use as juice as a flavoring in cooking, not to drink by the glass.

Can you post 2-3 days of your typical food log, including portion sizes and water consumption?  We can see if anything stands out on the bloating or itching front, and see whether you're getting enough protein, per your comment.

A normal breakfast is two eggs and a piece of sausage with half a sweet potatoe and a handful of spinach, and some blackberries and strawberries...a few.

Lunch has been the protein salad made with grapes, chicken breast, homemade mayo, slivered almonds, onions, and cabbage. I put this on top of lettuce and spinach. It is about 3/4 of a cup of the protein mix.

Dinner is a piece of salmon, roasted zucchini, squash, and half a sweet potato. I change the protein up and one day it is a chicken breast, or a steak, or a hamburger patty.

I do not eat between meals, but in the morning is will pour myself about 4 ounces of grape juice and mix it with sparkling water. I must confess I do not drink enough water during the day. I teach school and lecture most of the day. I take a sip between classes.

Also a few days instead of the protein salad I cut up a banana and mix it with almond butter and about 1/4th a cup of flaked coconut.

I am very careful about getting grassfed meat and eggs. I also buy organic vegetables.

Try dropping the nuts, nut butters, cabbage and any raw veggies and see if that helps you feel less bloated. Also, aim for 1/2 an ounce of water per pound of body weight, daily.

On the itchy skin, try dropping the coconut.

Note: banana, almond butter and coconut is not the best choice for a meal, as it's fruit and fat (nuts are a fat on a Whole30). For best results, compose all your meals to have protein, veg and fat.
