TriGirlD
So, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that starting the whole30 around the holiday season definitely poses a set of challenges for me. But really, what time of the year would not pose challenges? I haven't experienced any sugar dragon cries this past 3 weeks, but today in the store, they had my favorite easter candy repurposed for Halloween. I think I drooled a little in the line. This Friday, we're doing a halloween potluck at work, and then everyone's walking togehter to lunch in their costumes to celebrate. Then on Saturday, my husband and I are going to be meeting up with friends at an amusement park. So, in preparation, I'm planning my MOST satisfying meal for Friday's lunch - something that will make me think "I'm so lucky I get to eat this right now" and honestly, I'm planning on making up an excuse and missing the party. I hate to ditch a social life, but this is so much more important right now. What are you doing to be ready for the candy onslaught that will come our way in a few days? I truly feel badly for those of you with kids who will be bringing it all into the house!
Seafarer
I don't give out candy, so it never gets in the house. Stickers, makeup, chintzy decorations... anything cheap that can be saved for another year. My kids were never candy eaters. They would toss their treat bags into the freezer and go help themselves whenever the mood struck. Usually I tossed most of it out around about Easter. MTNan
It sounds like you're doing great! During my whole30 earlier this year, as well as the one I'm currently doing, there has always been lots of candy, pizza, beer, wine, ice cream, etc. around me. I just figured I needed to learn to say no sooner or later. Here's the thing- this stuff is always going to be around! Maybe not in your house or at your job, but at the store, out with friends, at other people's homes for dinner... The more you say no to the junk you don't want, the easier it gets. Off whole30, I relax the rules for eating out or with friends. But Halloween on whole30? No big deal. Make up your mind ahead that you're just not going to touch any of it, you're far enough alone you should have plenty of practice at that! Good luck!
