Day 3 and struggling!

Recommended Posts

Ok...so the title sounds dramatic...but it was my husband's birthday yesterday (DAY 2) and it was TOUGH not eating that beautiful chocolate cake! I also made the whole30 chili for dinner...my husband is ok with the recipes but then adds all the *good stuff* to his. Which is fine...I would never force him to eat what I'm eating, but it was tough to sit there and eat my plain chili while watching him eat chili with rice, sour cream, and cheese. Haha! It sounds so silly writing it out, but last night it was hard! I made it through and did not eat the cake and did not add anything to my chili  :) Still gonna be tough tho!!

Good job passing up the cake! It's not silly -- lots of people struggle, especially the first week or so, and actually having things there in front of you that you like but can't have just makes it harder.

Chili was a tough one for me, even though I didn't have to watch anyone else eat it with all the fixings. Turns out it's not so much that I like chili on its own, only as a vehicle for cheese and fritos. I don't make it much anyway, and just won't make it on Whole30 anymore. But, if you do have it in the future, try it over zoodles or spaghetti squash or cauliflower rice, and add a little coconut milk, or if you put your can of coconut milk in the fridge for a few hours it will usually separate out to a thicker cream and water, just use some of the cream part -- it's not sour cream flavored, but would give you the cool creamy something that might feel more satisfying.

I hear you on the chili challenge.  It seems so boring with nothing added or on top!

My favorite Whole30 approved topping is diced avocado.  You get that 'creamy' addition that I used to get from cheese and the flavor actually goes really well with chili.

Hang tough - you will get to the point that turning down those foods gets easier (not 'easy' but easier!). :)

Thank you so much for this advice! Chili is one of my favorite dishes to eat during the fall and winter, and the whole30 recipe just didn't do it for me. Its more like a vegetable soup than chili (although that IS the whole point of the whole30 lol  :) more vegetables!) I will definitely try it again with spaghetti noodles or cauliflower rice. The coconut milk is a good idea too...and god knows I love avocados!

I'm so used to eating fast food for lunch that this has been a huge change for me, but I am definitely ready for a healthier lifestyle!

I'm another one who isn't a w30 chilli fan. I only like it with rice and sour cream. And tortilla chips. I'm a bit meh about spaghetti bolognese without parmesan too, though I don't miss the spaghetti. I don't enjoy cottage pie served without peas.

What works better for me is new food. New recipes - well fed and well fed 2 are just so good. Stuff that doesn't feel like it's lacking the good stuff because it's good stuff in its own right.
