I Think I Need to Start over...

I am on Day 16 of my Whole30 and in my inbox this morning was my Whole30 daily... one of the lines reads "You've noticed that your clothes are fitting you better." Well...not so much. They are actually fitting me tigher since starting whole30. Since starting I have kicked energy drinks and sugar to the curb but I think I have been compensating by eating too much fruit. I have also been drinking Kombucha which... I have a feeling probably isn't allowed on the Whole30. I am proud to have finally been able to quit energy drinks but I am not so proud of the tighter pants! My performance in crossfit has improved, and my energy levels are more stable but I think I need to drop the fruit. What do you think?

Hi Amber. How much fruit are you eating per day? I decided to limit my fruit intake because I was using it to feed a sugar addiction. The last two weeks of my Whole30 I've had maybe three pieces of fruit total.

Nuts can also be problematic - both because they can promote weight gain (seriously, who can eat just one handful of cashews?) and because they can irritate your gut. I discovered that I absolutely cannot handle pecans, and if I'm going to eat nuts or seeds at all, I can only have them every three days or so...otherwise I get the same bloated feeling.

Finally, there's still a lot of flux at this point in the program. I had fluctuations in my waistline throughout (and continue to, up to today, which is Day30), which I think is why Melissa and Dallas urge you to stay off the scale. If your kombucha doesn't have sugar (see below), and you've been really assiduous about being compliant in every other regard, you probably don't need to restart - I'd say take it easy with the nuts, try to chill out on the fruit and enjoy your PRs at CrossFit (that counts for something, you know)!

I haven't ever had kombucha, but I know that there are compliant varieties - you need to make sure that the only added sugar is fuel for the fermentation and not for sweetness. A mod can probably weigh in here.

Kombucha that lists 2 grams of sugar per serving is okay. If more sugar is listed, it's added to make it sweet, not to achieve fermentation. The GT Dave's variety are okay and I have been drinking one daily. If you search the forum, you can find one or two kombucha topic threads.

I have been drinking the GT's original but I have been drinking like three a day lol and as far as the fruit goes.... I have probably been eating at least a whole honeydew a day...AT LEAST. I eat some with lunch and then in the evening when the sugar craving hits. And I also think I just ate my weight in raisins... I have a sugar problem :(
