Day 9 and still craving everything

Recommended Posts

Hi I am on 9 nine of my first whole30.  About 3 days ago I started to feel less bloated and pretty good no cravings not feeling hungry.  Then yesterday ( day 8)  I started feeling bloated and horrible and craving everything...today is the same.  I have not had one bite or lick of anything off plan.  Does this ever get better?  When do I start feeling good with lots of energy?  Not sure I will be able to push through if I don't find some energy soon :P

Where are you in your cycle? Many people report cravings at this time, or an increase in hunger - you may find that upping your starchy veg intake will help in this case.

Otherwise it's hard to tell without knowing what you are eating. If you'd like to post a few days worth of your food intake indicating portion sizes in relation to the palm of your hand, along with sleep/stress/activity levels we can take a look and maybe troubleshoot for you...

In the meantime, when a craving strikes that won't pass with a distraction technique try taking some fat - a spoonful of oil, a handful of olives.... only fat will stop those cravings in their tracks.

Ok, breathe.  :)

The reality is extreme stress, sleeping fitfully and muscle pain are all working against you in gaining energy.  Healthy eating isn't going to fix all that.

Can you begin with taking steps in one or more of these fronts to improve these qualities?  Is the muscle pain a new problem, or is this something you've have pre-Whole30?

On the food/water side of things,
- what are the ingredients in your creamed spinach?  If it's nuts, that could be the culprit of your bloat.
- besides today's breakfast, what fats have you been having in your meals and in what quantity?
- what have your chicken/sausage portions been? (also confirm the chicken sausage and applesauce are compliant)
- what did you have for vegetables yesterday at lunch and in what quantity?

- how  much water are you drinking daily?

Muscle pain has only started with the whole30 program. I make the creamed spinach myself with just spinach, garlic and coconut milk. Fats in my meals are ghee which I cook my meats in and put on my sweet potato. I also eat gucamole or avacodo with most meals.  Chicken sausage was 1. Yes both the sausage and applesace were compliant. The veggies in the curry I make are peppers carrots and then I mix in a bunch osquash to thinken it a bit.  Water is about 64 oz a day

With respect to the muscle pain, are you salting your food?   Also, your water consumption would be appropriate if you weigh 128 lbs. If you weigh more than that, increase your water consumption to 1/2 oz of water per pound of body weight, daily.  (could help with the bloat and muscle pain, if you're dehydrated)

Garlic could also be a culprit with the bloat.

If you're sauteeing, note that much of the fat stays behind in the pan.  You may need to compensate after cooking with more fat.

I'd up your chicken sausages to 2, and be sure you're getting 1-3 cups of veggies per meal. Note that 1 cup of raw spinach cooks down to very little - you'd need a huge mixing bowl of spinach, before cooking, to be filling.

And do find a way to give yourself some compassionate self-care around your stress and sleep.

Yes I am salting my foods should I not be?

Yes, we encourage people to salt their food.  Many people skip this step because "they" have told us that we have too much sodium in our diet.  But once you remove all the processed junk, you are left with little to no sodium....something that the body actually requires.  So salt away!  :)
