Very bad constipation

Recommended Posts

Is the blood bright red? or dark?

Have you spoken with a medical practitioner?

Are you taking a magnesium supplement?

Are you active? Drinking enough fluids? (1/2 ounce of water per pound of body weight daily)

Can you list a few days worth of your food/liquid intake to see if anything jumps out that might be causing this...?

Can you break that down into actual meals so we can see the composition?

Almonds, cashews, walnuts & brazil nuts could be a problem for starters.

How active are you?

Not lunch time yet.

Yesterday

B - banana, 3 hard boiled eggs, black coffee

L - carrots, guac, chk apple sausage, raw nuts

D - chk sausage mushroom and onion quiche with spaghetti squash.

Day before yesterday

B - banana, black coffee

L - beef stew from whole foods, grilled root veggies, green beans

D - ground turkey stuffed bell peppers with baked onion and carrots, raw nuts

Day before that

B - scrambled eggs with spinach, black coffee

L - chk sausage with cauliflower rise risotto with mushrooms, raw nuts

D - skirt steak and salad with olive oil.

I drink about a half a gallon of water a day which I have noticed may be making me more constipated. I use coconut oil to cook and olive or coconut oil on my salads. I salt my foods.

Sure...

Today

B - 3 hard boiled egg whites, apple, black coffee  no veggies, no added fat (why are you only eating egg whites?)

Not lunch time yet.

Yesterday

B - banana, 3 hard boiled eggs, black coffee - no veggies

L - carrots, guac, chk apple sausage, raw nuts remove the nuts

D - chk sausage mushroom and onion quiche with spaghetti squash. no added fat?

Day before yesterday

B - banana, black coffee no veggies, no protein, no fat

L - beef stew from whole foods, grilled root veggies, green beans no veggies, no added fat

D - ground turkey stuffed bell peppers with baked onion and carrots, raw nuts remove the nuts

Day before that

B - scrambled eggs with spinach, black coffee spinach cooks down, very unlikely you have enough veggies here

L - chk sausage with cauliflower rise risotto with mushrooms, raw nuts remove the nuts

D - skirt steak and salad with olive oil. salad greens, unless you are eating an actual mixing bowl full of them, are not enough

It's hard to tell quantities but my impression is that even when you are listing vegetables, you aren't actually eating enough of them.  Check out our meal template linked below and try to make all your meals match. Many of your meals are lacking in a critical component.

Water should be half an ounce per pound of bodyweight so a 175# person needs 88 ounces of water daily.  Water won't make you more constipated.  You can try drinking your water at room temperature (or even warm) though, that can help with movement.

As the other people have said, ditch the nuts immediately.  Cook all your veggies; raw can be hard on the gut.  If you're going to have salad, make it a HUGE salad but also add at least 1-2 cups of cooked veggies.

Also note that the cooking oil generally stays in the pan unless you are making a point of scraping it out onto the plate.  You can always add an additional fat source (olives, avocado, homemade mayo, ghee etc)

What was your diet like before Whole30? Was it heavy on "fibre" from whole grain baked products, oatmeal etc?  Remember that when you move away from these things, the fibre from veggies is what you're after.

Adding to the advice of others...

Eat more fat at every meal. Your digestive system needs more lubrication. :) The best part of an egg is the yolk. When you eat just the whites for breakfast, you are missing the fat, the vitamins, and the nutrients. All you are getting is protein and that is not nearly enough.

Drink a lot more water. I would be constipated if I drank just 1/2 gallon per day. I notice if I fail to drink enough. :)

By fat, you mean olive oil and coconut oil or fact cuts of meat?

Olive oil, avocado, walnut/macadamia nut oil, coconut milk/cream/butter/meat/flakes, fatty cuts of meat, tallow, lard, schmaltz, ghee, olives - basically any source of fat except nuts which, as highlighted above, are notoriously hard on the digestive system & an inferior fat source due to their poor omega 3:6 ratio
