My WholeHealthyLife :)

Geez. I was a bit overconfident on Saturday. Off-roaded a lot this weekend. Once you take that first bite of something non-compliant, it can be really hard to say no to the next thing... :(

I will remain compliant today!

Thanks Ladies!

HB eggs and black coffee for breakfast. And right this very minute I am eating some Chocolate Chili that I had in my freezer for days just like this. :)

I am having an off week and feeling stressed. We are having a surprise party at our house Saturday night for my MIL's birthday. Only about 30 people will be here, half of it family, but it is taking so much effort to plan and organize it, buy the decorations, supplies, food, etc plus clean and declutter the house. Well declutter the house. I have a housekeeper coming Thursday to clean. Thank goodness! And our college student babysitter is coming to help me decorate and set up everything. Well worth what we pay her to have help I can count on and not have to burden my husband with much, which he and I would both hate! I am going overboard with this party because my MIL is very nice and never gets a big birthday celebration because her birthday is Christmas Day. And she is widowed so no one else is going to throw her a party. Been planning this all year. Some of the family will be visiting this weekend from out of town, so we decided to throw the party while they are here. She will be 70 in December. I am no Martha Stewart and I don't do Pinterest, but I am going crazy with lots of little details to make it extra. extra special and I can't wait to begin decorating and setting up Friday night. Can't do anything early because she might stop by and see it, plus my kids would never keep the secret...

I'm still here. Just been busy. Party was an amazing success on Saturday. So much fun. Still working my way through the leftover dinner party food so not compliant again just yet. Hate to waste all the good food, you know? The rotisserie chicken and roasted veggies from Whole Foods have a bit of canola oil but otherwise are pretty good choices. The really bad food like cake and ice cream is gone. And the yummy field green salad with cranberries, candied pecans and goat cheese. I swear that was a good as the cake to me! A few glasses of wine tonight and the open bottle (from Sunday when our family came back over to hang out again and share in all the leftover goodies) will be gone. It was clearly the most elaborate party I have done since my wedding but it was fabulous. I think I spent at least 12 hours decorating and setting up tables, etc!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Almost forgot. I decided just yesterday that my son's upcoming birthday party (he is turning 9) will be something resembling a CrossFit Games Competition. He thinks it's a cool idea. He always loves the relay races and obstacle course type drills he does at his taekwondo classes. All the kids have fun with it. So I bought two 15 ft. agility ladders today from someone on Craigslist, I already own two 6 inch steps and two 8 inch steps that can be used for box jumps, I ordered a second small medicine ball that the kids can carry over their heads as part of a circuit that will be timed, and I had leftover sidewalk chalk paint that we can use to mark race lanes in our cul de sac. I even contacted a local tire store and found out I can get some old tires for free for them to flip across the pavement. I can't wait to plan all the events and get prizes and medals for the kids. Some competitions will be short like a pushup or plank contest, but others will make them hurt and include burpees and box jumps or shuttle sprints. I think the party is going to be more fun for me than it will for them!!! :)

And thankfully I have six weeks before this next party so there is really no rush to get anything done right now...

Holy crap I want to come!! LOL

Seriously Laura, if you want to come I would love some extra help with timing and coordinating the events! :)

I will try to limit the number of competing kids to about 16 and have two lanes set up so two boys can race and compete in each heat. The party is tentatively planned for Saturday December 1st in the afternoon. I am making black t-shirts for the adult helpers to wear that say "TRAINER" across the front. Gotta love Michael's and their $3 shirts, right? :)

I am super excited about this party plan, because some of the equipment I get can be used over and over again with my kids. Other stuff will be temporary. I bought wooden dowels and 6" styrofoam balls at Michael's to make fake dumbbells. Paint the wood silver, the balls black, put together with a glue gun and I will have fun relay sticks to make the kids pick up for the shuttle sprints. I think if I have a plastic pail or basket to drop them in at the starting line they should hold up for the afternoon. The really large balls were a little expensive, maybe 6.99 each, but if I use the 40% off coupon on multiple trips to Michael's, I can make very lightweight fake barbells the kids can hold over their heads for overhead squats. I think making two "barbells" will only cost me about $10 each. And my kids will continue to play with them after the party until they fall apart...

My other event idea is to make them do a "Farmer Carry" with one gallon milk jugs (filled with water) in each hand as far as they can down my street. The possibilities are endless for this kind of a party and almost all the kids around here play sports so they are definitely capable of doing a little strength and conditioning workout.

I think I will give small Target gift cards as prizes to the overall top 3 participants and medals to the individual event winners. Wouldn't it be awesome to do it each year and make the events more difficult as the kids grow? I love having parties at home because I really do relax and have fun with them.

I ate eggs for breakfast and bought chicken this morning to make soup in my crockpot tomorrow. Feels good to be planning some good Whole30 meals again. Had a great conditioning workout this morning. Flipping tires, box jumps, rope stuff, pushing sleds. Fun. Fun.

OK, this is what I do when I don't want to be a grown up and do laundry or clean my house...

I just ordered three medals for the party. Each one is engraved on the back with the date and 1st place, 2nd place, etc. and has a coordinating ribbon and "presentation box". Total with shipping for 3 medals, $16. Seriously, I need to do some real work now. I'm just being lazy and somehow shopping for this party makes me feel a little productive as if I am not completely wasting my day. Have a half hour before the afternoon rush begins with picking up my preschooler, then errands, then the elementary school kids, homework, gymnastics, a makeup soccer game and then dinner and ready for bed while hubby goes to tennis practice. Now do you see why I was lazy this morning? I know you get it Derval!

Busy day today with errands, doctor appt for my middle child, and yet another makeup baseball game. I am excited it will be harder for me to snack too much. Eating good food today and happy about it. Went for a walk this morning and will be back at gym tomorrow.

Have a great day all. I got a new Kindle Fire HD and think I will read ISWF again beginning this afternoon as my first book to enjoy with my nice bright screen. Lots of waiting around at the doctor's office, especially when it's a specialist... :)

Yum. I took some of my chicken broth, a can of tomatoes, some frozen tri-color peppers and mirepoix veggies and simmered in the crockpot with cumin, garlic, smoked paprika, chili powder and cilantro while I was at my kids t-ball and baseball games this afternoon. I planned to add chicken to the whole pot at the end but decided to keep it protein free. I just tried a small bowl with some added chicken and it was good.

Next time I'll add hot sauce, chunks of avocado, and a squeeze of lime to my serving but right now it is mild enough for my kids to eat which makes it more flexible for my family. Hubby and I can easily spice it up with jalapeno sauce. :) I will freeze the leftover soup so I can add shrimp, chicken or beef depending on our mood. I always have some sort of cooked protein on hand ready to turn into a meal so I thought this would give me so many more fast dinner options. :)

Red items are not Whole30 compliant...

Decent eating today but not Whole30. Slept late and barely made it on time to church. Had a tall latte after church when we went shopping for Halloween costumes at Target. Had some of my veggie soup with chicken when we got home. Hubby did too and he liked it. For dinner I had cauliflower topped with grass-fed ground beef and marinara plus a tablespoon or two of parmesan. And a bottle of Gingerade Kombucha. The rest of the family ate various leftovers. Did a good job clearing out the fridge tonight.

Gorgeous weather today. Went for three mile walk, then did a conditioning workout with the kids for about twenty minutes. We did a circuit of 10 jumping jacks, a sprint across the cul de sac to pic up a cone marker and sprint back to our driveway, then 5 pushups and a trip through the agility ladder set up in the garage. We each started with ten cones and somehow I was last to complete 10 circuits. I think some cheating took place and the kids picked up two cones instead of one a couple of times through the circuit...

I bought the cone markers on Amazon, 50 for $25. I thought we could use them for my son's birthday party. They barely take up any space, come with a little stand to hold them together and there are ten in each color so each of us had our own stack. It really was a lot of fun, and I will run them around again with a similar circuit before too long. They are outside throwing the football with Daddy right now... :)

FYI - I know I have been non-compliant for about three weeks. I still believe in Whole30 eating, and I want it to be my permanent meal/lifestyle plan. I have not given up, even though I have been less focused. Many of the foods I eat are Whole30 compliant and will always be. I cook differently than I did before Whole30 #1, and I purchase different foods than before Whole30 #1. My family is non-Paleo so many non-compliant foods remain in my home. At times, I resist them all quite easily. But times like today, I decide that a little parmesan won't hurt, or grass-fed butter instead of ghee on the leftover cauliflower is ok. I honestly wish I had reacted poorly to the reintroduction of grains and dairy after my first Whole30, or even my second Whole30, but I just didn't. It's totally up to me to mentally make the best choice about the foods I eat. Some days I do better than others but overall I am still pleased with the progress I have made this year. I'll keep working at it to get even better!

Update: Had a Primal Pac last night as a snack. :) With two glasses of wine. :(

Good workout today. Power cleans/clean and jerks, squats, and bench press. Going to do a little conditioning workout with the kids again in a little while.

Decided I need to log my food, whether it is compliant or not. I think it will help me get a little closer to Whole30 compliant.

Meal 1: 4 eggs, coffee with coconut milk.

Meal 2; Chicken mixed with mayo and Mazzetta's Roasted red bell pepper and chipotle sandwich spread, served over a bed of romaine lettuce. Plus a few bites of ground beef that I browned for dinner tonight.

My non-Paleo kids and hubby will have "nachos" tonight - a bowl of seasoned ground beef with a little cheese on top and 5-6 tortilla chips. Not a great meal, but they eat far more meat and less chips this way than when they used to eat it as "tacos". They will also have fresh fruit. I will take the seasoned meat and make a "taco salad" with lettuce, tomatoes, roasted chipotle salsa and avocado. Yum!

My kids have early release all week because of teacher conferences so they get home two hours early. I was so happy to know we would have two extra hours each day for after school homework and sports activities. Then my oldest (and most challenging to get to do his homework) gets of the bus and says "Guess what? My teacher said we don't have any homework all week!" I swear I don't know who was more excited, him or me!!! :D
