newwhole30er
I'm not hungry until earliest 9 am. I'll eat breakfast then, but a smaller one than the meal template really says to, I just can't get down more than that. I leave to work at 11:45 and get home at 4. I teach, so I can't just eat while I'm working. I would have to eat before I leave. I only really get hungry for lunch around 2, but by then it's too late. By the time I get home at 4 I'm ravenous and desperately hunting for food while dinner cooks. How do I break the cycle?
berrybird
I only got through it myself by simply forcing myself to eat when I got up. Yes, it meant that I was fighting nausea and feeling a bit gross for the first few days, but it dissipated very quickly, and I say that as someone who really, actively *hated* eating in the morning (I've been a breakfast-skipper all my life) and with a gag reflex so strong I have trouble even taking small pills in the morning. I still don't love doing it, I'm not going to lie - I just finished my first Whole30 last week - but neither does it bother me any longer. You just have to do it. You're not going to start feeling hungry until you make the change in habits, your appetite is too well trained to what you currently do. Now I generally wake up at least a little bit hungry, though it still takes some effort. As for how to do it, having pre-prepped food might help, depending on what exactly is offputting to you about eating in the morning. I generally can't stand cooking in the morning, so I mostly eat things that are better cold (certain leftovers, chicken or tuna salad, etc) or can be microwaved (a sweet potato, leftover roasted veggies), for example. Edit to add: To be more specific, I think for me the scent of cooking food first thing is actually the thing that bothers me - I'm super-sensitive to smells like that. So my favorite first-meal-of-the-day is cold sliced meat and raw veggies with a dipping sauce of some kind, which are pretty scentless.

Moderators Tom Denham Posted November 18, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 18, 2015 The reason you are not hungry is because your hormones are out of whack. They are not in a healthy rhythm. The most powerful way to induce your hormones to get into their proper rhythm is to eat a proper meal of protein, fat, and veggies within one hour of waking in the morning. Your hormones are the secret to losing fat and feeling good. Trust me that you really want your hormones working for you instead of against you. Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted November 24, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2015 If you drink coffee, tinker with cutting back, drinking half decaf, weaning yourself. At the very least, we ask that you eat before drinking any coffee. Try it and see. Melissa Hartwig gave up coffee awhile back as an experiment and it took two months for her to start waking up hungry. Caffeine is a powerful appetite suppressant. LiveLoveLaughEat
I hear you newwhole30er, I've been a breakfast skipper all my life too because of nausea and not being an early riser. Plus having an egg sensitivity I didn't know what in the world I would eat for breakfast on whole 30. Skipped breakfast the first couple days on this and was just too ravenous the rest of the day so I decided I needed to prep my food the night/day before. I have discovered my new favorite is thin sliced steak, that i pair with something else like homefries or guacamole, and a little fruit. I have felt so much better lately. This morning I had left over salmon and black olives for breakfast. Yesterday I had leftover whole 30 compliant "stuffing" made from pork, apple, onion, celery, with sauteed broccoli for breakfast. I used to think it had to be "breakfasty" foods but now I know it can be any protein & veggie combo. Just try some different foods and see what you can hold down
newwhole30er
So I've found something that I can eat early in the morning- egg salad and blended vegetable soup. Is that ok though or are blended soups in the category of smoothies? I did eat more veggies that way than any other breakfast I've tried to get down.
