dwerder
I am on day 23 and I've been crazy compliant - and feeling great!!! Tonight I was spraying some coconut oil into muffin tins for some delicious tuna cakes and just glanced at the ingredients - SOY LECITHIN!!!! Honestly, it never occurred to me to check the label when I started b/c I just assumed (ignorantly) that it was simply coconut oil!! I've used the spray on and off, mostly in tins or for the occasional fried eggs. Do I start over?? I read the articles about starting over, but I'd really appreciate some input. Thank you! GFChris
It's ultimately your call: realize soy can be a big gut disruptor. If starting over now feels too overwhelming, finish it out and consider doing another Whole30 at some point where no off-plan items are consumed. You unfortunately discovered the hard way that most cooking sprays contain soy lecithin.
CaGirl
Your gut must not be disturbed by the few times that you used the spray.. I say carry on with no more spray
kirkor
FYI there is soy in some canned tuna.... Make that *most* canned tuna :-/
LoveAKA
UGH! I am SO glad I read this. My coconut oil spray has soy lecithin in it too. How did I not look at the ingredients? ;(
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted November 19, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 19, 2015 Your gut must not be disturbed by the few times that you used the spray.. I say carry on with no more spray That all depends on the person... someone who is very sensitive to soy may have a lot of gut disruption and someone who isn't wouldn't... ultimately it is the original poster's decision but soy, consumed in even a small quantity can be bad news for some people. Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted November 19, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 19, 2015 Well the poster said she's be A OK Feeling Great She did say she's been feeling great, but until you remove all gut disruptors, how does one know if they're at the top of their 'great' or could be feeling better... that's my point... you don't know until you remove it entirely... and since soy is a lot less innocuous than a bit of sugar, that type of slip up deserves proper consideration. Brewer5
The rules are rules and they are there for a reason. Can you imagine if the Whole 30 program was "Eat what you want as long as you are feeling great"? ...That is no program at all. The idea is to *completely* remove these items for 30 days. That's how Whole 30 works. It's a crappy situation when someone realizes they've slipped up -- but it is a slip-up nonetheless.

dwerder
Thanks so much for the input!! I think I'll need to restart after Thanksgiving, which is fine with me - Could the soy also be why my hands feel swollen?

I think I'll need to restart after Thanksgiving, which is fine with me - Could the soy also be why my hands feel swollen? Yes, definitely could be the reason! Soy is a nasty beast and a HUGE inflammer... I think you would be good to restart so you can test it properly at the end and see how it affects you... it sounds like it's probably not going to be a huge part of your food plan going forward tho... if the swelling is due to the soy... dwerder
Thanks Sugarcube. My whole30 is officially over this coming Tues - I plan on reintroducing, then doing another "perfect" whole30 after the holidays. How does that sound?
