SFLawyer
Hi all, I have a question about sweet potato chips. I understand that sweet potatoes are in, but commercially prepared sweet potato chips are out. (See http://whole30.com/2013/06/the-official-can-i-have-guide-to-the-whole30/) Do restaurant sweet potato chips fall into that category as well? I'm looking at Prather Ranch sweet potato chips, which are fried in beef tallow. I'm thinking it's probably a no, but it seems like many people do eat this type of food as part of their Whole30, so I wondered if I was missing something or if there's a distinction between restaurant-prepared chips and the commercially prepared chips you buy at the grocery store. missmary
No commercially prepared fries or chips allowed. If they are just chunks of sweet potato baked into "fries", ok.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted November 24, 2015 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2015 Many people eat a lot of things during a Whole30 that undermines and erodes their results. Chips of any sort fall into that category. You are not missing out on anything when you pass on chips.
Seafarer
Most of the sweet potato chips that are in restaurants are also manufactured & sold directly to consumers. Different container & different label perhaps, but same commercially prepared product.
