LA28
Can you eat deli meat (turkey breast, ham, etc) while on whole30?
Susan W
You can if you can find some that is on plan which is very difficult. You have to ask them what's in it. Tell them you don't want sugar, wine, honey and all the nasty preservatives etc. Start there. Very often (the deli guy told me this a few weeks ago) companies put a little wine and honey on turkey and chicken so that it isn't white in the case...looks better when it's golden. It's much easier to find compliant roast beef. You may want to do a search because many people have found compliant deli meats in their areas. I just buy top round and turkey breast and roast them now.
Mikeysison
Whole Foods has some Applegate deli meat that they carve on-site. It has no nitrites and no sugar. From what I can tell, it's totally whole 30 compliant!
Renee Lee
Mikey, double check the ingredients if you can. There was a BIG to-do six months or so ago about Applegate adding carrageenan to their deli meats. I think the prepackaged stuff was the culprit, and the stuff at the counter fresh carved was safe...but definitely double check! Carrageenan is NOT compliant.
