Feeling more and more nauseated every morning....

I'm on day 8 today!

It's going okay, except every morning I feel very hungry as soon as I wake, but when breakfast is ready I have no appetite and feel sick (I try to eat within the hour, toddler permitting). Then I'm hungry again 2 hours later. What's going on? I've been mostly having 3 eggs with ghee and veggies for breakfast.

Maybe your brain/body wants you to take a break from eggs as your first meal of the day? Regarding the hunger 2 hours later, maybe you're not eating enough veggies?

Try something else for your meal 1. Lots of ideas here:http://forum.whole30.com/topic/28832-lets-talk-non-traditional-breakfasts/

Also, google Whole30 non-egg breakfasts for links to several past discussion threads with other alternatives.

Hi Shaimom,

I felt similar during my first Whole30. The feedback I received from others here on the forum was that contributing factors might be:

  • out of whack hormones keeping me from feeling hungry when I was supposed to be, and that as I followed the Whole30 my hormones would regulate and the nausea would likely settle down
  • caffeine causing/acting as an appetite suppressant, and to mediate that by cutting out caffeine or by not having coffee until after meal 1

What I ended up doing: Persevering and eating an early Meal 1 each day, even if I didn't feel like it at first. I found that after I started eating something, the weird tummy feelings went away for me. I also changed my Meal1 to have something more like a traditional lunch or dinner meal, with meat and steamed green veg and some starchy veg, for a week or so. I stopped using ghee in the morning and got my a.m. fats from avocados and olives. This worked for me, and eventually, my body seemed to even out and the not-hungry and bad-tummy feelings diminished.

I don't know if these tips might work for you, but give them a try if they sound intriguing.

All the best! Hang in there!

I have had the same problem all the whole 30 and at day 28, it is the worst it has ever been.  Eating eggs is bad enough but the idea of eating meat just turns my stomach.  I keep saying I will try it but in the morning, I just can't.  I used to eat some fruit or a smoothie or a little oatmeal with fruit and I could handle that but now in whole 30, I just don't want to eat.  I often have a headache too in the morning and that is the same now as at the beginning.  It could be that the meds that I take at night are reacting with more side effects or just the long fast is too much for my stomach.  I am usually not hungry later though before lunch, my hunger is often at night a few hours after dinner.  I usually ignore it and don't eat but often have a growly belly.  I tried not eating FODMAP foods but it made no difference.  Yes, I have tried upping the water and salt intake with no luck.  My blood pressure seems to be even lower now that my usual low pressure.

It seems that the nausea is a combination of dropping prilosec, it seemed so easy for a few days but the hyperacidity is coming back to bite me, and the mirapex is causing much worse side effects that is did before whole 30.  I tried dropping it but it is tough and I am just going to taper down.  Feel very good this morning with a half dose.  Many times it seems that the problems that arise during whole 30 are other, perhaps not related to the food.

Kathryn, Prilosec is a PPI (I take Prevacid, another PPI) and you can't just stop taking it! When you stop or even decrease your dosage, there is a rebound effect of increased heartburn. You have to taper off, SLOWLY. Concerning the Prilosec and Mirapex, I'd suggest you work with your doctor to find the right dosage and to discuss tapering when conditions warrant.

It's spreading to a general 'no more fat please!' feeling now! It's not terrible, I can eat through the nausea, but maybe I've been making things a little too rich. I think I'm going to stick to avocados, olives and olive oil for a few days before going back to homemade ghee and shmaltz.

Nope, for sure not pregnant. I would like to be though, part of the reason I'm doing the Whole30 ;)

I had cottage pie for breakfast today and that was good. I then had eggs at lunch. I think, like sgfc said, the trick is to have 'lunch' at breakfast...

Gotcha!  I COMPLETELY understand.  Good luck!

P.S. - Glad to hear that changing your M1 foods helped!
