beccabee
I never thought I'd post this because I normally like the protein part of my meal the least, but I have been making mel's salmon cakes and omg they are amazing. I was ravenous by the time they came out of the oven (always forget they take longer than I anticipate) and I ate 7 of them!! I ate 4 with my meal but I was still hungry after my plate was done so I ate more. Is there such thing as too much protein/veggies? I know to limit fruit, nuts, etc.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted January 5, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 5, 2016 Yes and no. There is such a thing as more protein than you need. Are you going to max out on protein when you're eating whole foods that are fairly close in their makeup to the way they came out of nature? Probably not. If you were drinking 8 whey protein shakes a day? Ya, probably. That all said, why were you so hungry? What was your intake like that day and the one before? Or were you just bliss eating? What was your diet like before you've come to Whole30? Sometimes when people are nutrient depleted from a nutrient-poor SAD, their body can beg for more-more-more at the beginning. Give us some details and maybe we can provide more tweaks if you want them.
missmunchie
I think you just found a new favorite! What else did you have with the salmon cakes? You might have just been really hungry depending on what else you ate that day. But yeah, when I make salmon cakes I always think, "there's no way we'll eat all these, they can be breakfast tomorrow!" And then they're gone. Sad trombone, looks like it's eggs for breakfast again! jmcbn
You know how to limit fruits, nuts etc - I wonder are you also limiting fats - the fats are what will satiate you so don't short change yourself. As Ladyshanny said a run down of what you've been eating might be helpful in order to help us help you... beccabee
I had the salmon cakes with brussel sprouts and avocado (lots of it)...I don't know when I've made this before i ate 2 and I was full. I just felt like I wasn't getting full this meal (odd because every other real I've really struggled to even eat everything).

Often I become a bottomless pit of template food when I have my period... like eating two breakfasts and sometimes two dinners...
Brewer5
If you've struggled to eat your other meals, this could be catching up from earlier in the day, the previous day... heck, you could be catching up from an entire week of under-eating? Who knows. Part of the beauty of the Whole 30 way of eating is honoring your body's needs. We don't always have to understand why we are more hungry -- sometimes there are things going on (like an impending illness, for example, or extra mental stress) that we are not even aware of. As long as you know you are making good template choices, just go with it. Our bodies really do know what they are doing... if we give them the correct tools to work with. praxisproject
Salmon also contains lots of great nutrients, so your body might be stocking up
Hannlib
Those salmon cakes aren't pure protein - they contain a lot of sweet potato too. Maybe your body needs the starchy carbs?
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted January 6, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2016 They are pretty dangerously delicious! Think of them when your coworkers and friends say "sounds like a very restrictive diet you're on".
