ali_g
First round Whole30, and the first three days... I've been hungry almost constantly. I'm eating to the point of feeling full at my meals, but only 2-3 hours later I'm hungry again! Pre-Whole30, I ate very similarly for lunch/dinner, however breakfast/snacks typically consisted of oats/protein powder or a protein shake (especially post-workout). Is my body just used to the harder to digest protein and now it's digesting more easily? I also used to eat 5-6 meals a day in smaller quantities (similar protein/fat/veggie structure). Limited whole grains, and if I did have them it was rice or quinoa. I work out 6-7 days per week, mix of cardio and strength training. Perhaps I'm also not getting enough carbs? I've been having starchy carbs 1-2 meals per day (sweet potato or banana), and 1-2 pieces of fruit. Currently feeling hungry, light-headed, and thirsty. Help! MeadowLily
Protein powders are made of denatured proteins that are created in a lab and manufactured in a plant. The benefit to the body is more mental than physical, more placebo that actual. Pea and whey protein powders actually raise the blood sugar levels and are of very little benefit at all. Real proteins trump anything that's denatured and manufactured. It might take a few days but your body will appreciate real whole foods.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 6, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2016 You are not eating enough. Don't use your own judgement for now. Follow our meal planning template to guide you into eating enough. Many people under eat when they begin a Whole30 because they don't eat enough protein, fat, or veggies at each meal. When you workout, you are due a pre- and post-workout meal in addition to your three regular meals. That means eating 5 times on days you workout. Here is the guide: http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-meal-planning.pdf Also, drink 1/2 ounce of water per pound of body weight every day, not counting what you drink during workouts. Your body does not miss protein powder. Your body has always hated protein powder. It wants real food and lots more of it than you have been providing. ali_g
Thanks Tom! I have been eating pre- and post-workout meals, and following the guidelines for recommended portions. Perhaps I'll try eating more fats - I've been gobbling up tons of protein & veggies, fat will probably be easier to get in to add calories! Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 7, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 7, 2016 Fats are where the magic hides. Good for you identifying where to adjust!
