Gaining weight

I started the Whole30 on January 2nd.  This morning I decided to weight myself (I know it is against the rules).  *** (moderator edit to delete scale results.)  On top it, my energy levels are down and getting out of bed is getting increasingly harder.  What should I make out of this?

One reason for the no weighing rule is that your weight can fluctuate up and down even within one day.

That you have no energy could mean you're not eating enough, or enough of the right things. Could you list a couple of days' worth of food, including approximate portion sizes, along with exercise and water intake? Maybe we can offer some suggestions.

I've also gained weight.  ***(moderator edit to remove weight)  I've weighed myself several times, over the past week, and the trend is up not down.  I am 3 weeks in.

People will give you the you are eating too much or too little, or you are eating chemicals stuff.  Or it's muscle. It's possible.  In my case, though, it's because I had a diet before Whole 30 that kept me at a lower weight than I am now (I was doing intermittent fasting).  I don't usually bloat from anything except salt, so I really doubt it's all the veggies I'm eating.  If you are at a normal weight then you might actually just be eating more calories now than you did before.

The diet industry has really given people a warped idea of how the scale relates to actual human experience. Your bodies' relationship to gravity is influenced by lots of things, but people tend to believe it is only "fat" or "lack of fat" that impact weight.

This is sad to me.

Examples: for hours after eating a high-bulk meal, that food is inside your body in the process of digesting, and yes, it impacts scale weight. After you poop. Guess what: instant weight loss. For days after starting a new fitness program, or even just doing some particularly heavy lifting, your body will retain fluids like a comfy cushion around your muscles as they recover. Get a massage, sit in the sauna or just take a day or two of rest? Your body releases these fluids in urine and bam, weight lost.

I could keep going.

Let's suffice it to say this: looking at the scale is distracting you from learning how to listen to your body about how much and what types of food you should be eating, and it is against the rules of this program. stop it. start looking at a bigger picture of health.

This is exactly why you aren't supposed to weigh yourself until your 30 days are up!  The magic doesn't happen after one week or two.  Forget about the scale and start working on changing your relationship with food.  Make every meal a perfect template meal and eat until you are satisfied.  Drink plenty of water.  Get plenty of sleep.  Nourish your body.  This program is about so much more than a number on the scale.
