Krondina
So this is the first time I have decided to go through the program. Yesterday was very easy for me. I love all the Whole30 approved foods, I just tend to float more towards things that are convenient, sweet, and carb loaded. Today I feel nauseous and almost sick. Is this normal? I truly did not change too much of my diet except for I did not drink any powdered drinks like Crystal Light as I normally do. Though, as I have increased my intake to two of the powdered drink mixes my chronic headaches have been so horrible that I would cry or sleep just to try to make the pain go away (after Advil that is). So this is one of the main reasons I wanted to start Whole30, I am tired of my headaches. Unfortunately I have zero support at home. My mother is a diabetic who continues to eat candy and junk food even though the doctors have told her she has beginning stages of glaucoma. My father is morbidly obese and needs a knee replacement but the doctors won't operate until he loses at least 100lbs. Then there is my fiancé, he is a junk food connoisseur, he is the ultimate snacker, and a lover of sugar. How can I get past this? I want them all to be involved as I fear for their lives. The only support I have is my sister who lives 1,200 miles away who has the same concern for our parents. Any suggestions trying to sneak in the Whole30 into their lives without them noticing? I cannot remove the food from the pantry or fridge without a fight as we're all adults. I'm sorry for rambling there! Just wanted to give a day 2 updated. Looking forward to the days ahead. It's my goal to finish Whole30 when my other sister comes to visit with her son.
chefjustin85
My wife and I are also on day 2. I've realized that there is overwhelming support on these forums so I would look here. All of the questions or concerns that I post here get answered with great details. Good luck I know you can do it.
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted January 12, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 12, 2016 Hi there, Krondina, welcome to whole30. I hear you on wishing your parents would participate. I no longer live with mine but I think it would do wonders for them. But the hard truth is that you can't make someone else do this. Also try to remember that they're adults, and they're making the choices they want to make -- and you are not responsible for their health. The most you can do is lead quietly by example. As they see you improving, feeling better, and better able to be an active, healthy, happy person, they may be inspired to make their own changes. Make lots of healthy, yummy food and share with them if they'll eat it. If you have the books The Whole30 or It Starts With Food, leave them out where they might pick them up and browse through them. Answer any questions they have. But don't go on and on about the program, or try to make them feel guilty for eating junk food, Or anything like that. Making someone feel bad is not the way to get them to agree with you. Best of luck on your Whole30!
Krondina
Thank you! I will certainly keep that all in mind. I just have to make sure I remember to post each day to look towards the support I need. I just hope that I can lead by example and make them desire to be healthier. Serik
I second the lead by example thought. If they are not supportive or interested just by hearing you talk about it, more talking or trying to convince them is not likely to work. But seeing you quietly make improvements might do it. Seeing that you have more energy, are more cheerful, or that you are no longer plagued by headaches might just convince them, or it might not. But you need to do what's best for you regardless of their choices. I'm on day 1 of what's probably my 5th whole30. One of the biggest results I have when I eat this way is a very significant reduction in my migraines. I truly hope you experience the same. Best of luck! Krondina
Serik, thank you! So many reasons I want/need to complete Whole30 but the headaches are just what's making my days horrible. I saw my coworker eating crakers and my mouth salivated. I have a bad headache now and feel a little nauseous so my first thought is always crackers! This is going to be a rough first two weeks, but I know I can do it.
