Starting the Whole 30 on January 17th

Hello!  My name is Heidi, and I'm starting the Whole 30 on January 17th with my husband.  I know it's a few days away, but I really want to be prepared, so I've read the book, and will start my meal planning today, shopping/cooking on Saturday for a Sunday start.  I'm really excited and am hoping that the W30 will help me with my Lupus symptoms.

I've had Lupus for 12 years and I know that my diet definitely impacts my disease and inflammation.  I'm really trying to get the inflammation down in my system.  And after a three-day stay in the hospital last month with my most recent flare, I'm ready to get started!

Is there anyone else out there with autoimmune disease that's doing the Whole 30?  Have you opted to exclude eggs and nightshades?  I'm vacillating on that part, but I really don't eat many tomatoes, potatoes or other nightshades, but I also don't want the plan to become so restrictive as to hinder my success.  I also don't want to hinder my husband because he's doing it as well.  I think I will just try to avoid the nightshades as much as possible, and will take note if I have them and how I feel afterwards.  It's not the nightshades that I'll struggle with -- it's the eggs.  I can always make hardboiled eggs and frittatas (my favorite!) for my husband and I can just not partake.  Besides, I prefer to eat dinner for breakfast which is another thing that I love about the W30.  I find this liberating, because while I like eggs, I'm not a huge breakfast foods person, which is awesome given the pancake restriction (lol).

I hope everyone is doing well, and I'm looking forward to getting started.

Welcome to the Whole30!. If possible, it is recommended you do just a plain Whole30 the first time. Then if your health problems haven't improved you could do a Whole30 AI. There are amazing people and moderators here that will help you every step of the way.

I will be starting w30 on 18th. I too have autoimmune issues that can't be determined caused and have been struggling for 13 years. It has been labelled as angio-edemma. If you google it for pictures, I have had many days with similar extreme facial swellings and among those thousands all over my body as well.

I am hopeful W30 will reset and help me be a healthier me.

Good luck and I look forward to reading your progress.

Thank you! Good luck to you as well.  Let's see if we can tackle these autoimmune diseases with the Whole 30!
