Mel_CA
Hi! I'm currently on Day 10 of my first Whole30 and I've been in charge of cooking and planning most of the meals my husband and I are eating. I'm a little confused about fat intake- I think I've read too many things that I've gone and confused myself and now I'm worried maybe I'm having us eat too much fat at each meal? We've only used recipes from the Whole30 book so far and they all call for cooking fats. Additionally I serve some form of mayo (or mayo based dressing), olive-oil based dressing, or avocado at each meal. If the recipes are adding in fat do I still need to be adding fat on my plate as well? Also- if I do keep adding, how much of the mayo should I be adding to the meal? A few tablespoons, a quarter cup,...? Here was today's meal plan: - Leftover roasted chicken with roasted potatoes and red pepper mayo - Whole30 Shepherds Pie with greens salad and citrus herb vinaigrette - Grilled steak with garlic-shallot puree with roasted beet, orange, and avo salad (olive oil dressing) Thanks so much! Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 14, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 14, 2016 I think I have seen one person eat too much fat on a Whole30. Don't count cooking fat when you are composing a meal. Cooking fat is inconsequential. You need fat in the food itself or it must be added. However, measure your mayo by tablespoons (even if it winds up being a quarter cup). One caveat: over eating nuts is easy. Make life simpler and don't do nuts during a Whole 30. Mel_CA
Thanks for your quick response! We haven't had any nuts unless it's chopped into a recipe or lightly sprinkled on a salad. You mentioned measuring the mayo by tablespoon- how many tablespoons are a good idea? I'm asking mostly because it's hard to NOT consume a ton of some of these mayo recipes- SO good!! The recommendation for mayo or any oils is 1-2 thumb-sized amounts. Use your thumb as your guide.
Mel_CA
Wow, that would be maybe two teaspoons. I have small hands.
GFChris
Wow, that would be maybe two teaspoons. I have small hands. Ok, that would be a place to *start.* It's fine to have more. Let satiety be your guide. Aim to create meals of protein, veg and fat that satiate you for 4-5 hours.
