Not hungry

So what if you're just not hungry?

I ate lunch yesterday and I really wasn't hungry for the rest of the day. The lunch was delicious and I felt great, just full. Is it better to eat a little something or just be full?

I can find support for both eating and not eating on other websites, but am wondering about the Whole30 viewpoint.

Oh, four days in to Whole30 (and all is well).

Doug,

Nice job on 4 days in! Sometimes those can be the toughest. I'm not sure there is an official Whole30 stance on this topic. I have had several folks I've worked with who experience this lack of appetite at the beginning of the Whole30. Every body is different and every day is different with every body. Generally speaking, though, this seems to work it's way out as your body adjusts to the new plan.

I'm currently on day 14 of my second whole30, and the last 2 days I've had no appetite either. This is so odd to me, and a little frightening, I've never not been hungry! I love food and I love eating :)

But during the last two days, no matter what time of day, I'm just not hungry. I still made myself eat breakfast lunch and dinner, but it was just that, MAKING myself eat. Even this morning, (third day of this), I'm not hungry for breakfast.

Anyone else experience something similar?

Should I eat just to get in a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or should I just skip meals until I get hungry?

I think appetite should be somewhat suppressed...that is, manageable and where you're not ravenous between meals...however at the recent whole9 workshop I attended i remember Melissa and Dallas explicitly saying that it is not entirely normal to have no appetite and could mean that your hormones are not all in check. Are you sleeping ok? Getting around 8 hours? Getting some exercise? Managing stress?

I personally think you should get in all your meals. When you eat also matters as eating and not eating has effects on hormone stimulation. There are some varying thoughts on whether we should eat on schedules or just when we want but ideally you'll have a couple hours between your last meal and bedtime and eat within a half hour of waking in the AM. Are you eating on a somewhat regular schedule now?

For the most part my hunger has returned, just a weird couple of days. I still ate at a regular schedule, and sleep around 7 to 8 hours a night. My exercise defiantly needs to improve, I usually only get in 2-3 times a week.

Hopefully it was just a fluke, everything seems to be back to normal now

I am starting day 8. Since day 5 I am good to get in a couple of small meals a day. A lot of the food I have to force myself to eat. I too have been concerned about the lack of hunger. I think the best answer is the body is adjusting, Mine may have started earlier in the program since I have been pretty much paleo since the beginning of the year. I know I am not getting the nutrition my body needs. How is the Whole30 with vitamin supplements?

Hi Lora. I've now finished my Whole30. With regard to hunger, I've decided not to worry about whether I feel hungry or not and some days I will only eat two small meals. On other days I feel really hungry, so I eat. I'm not concerned with my vitamin or mineral intake either. I don't have any reason to believe that I'm lacking in anything and I figure the variety of food that I am eating are providing me with what I need.

The one supplement that I do take is fish oil. (Although I will reduce the dose over time and eventually stop this, too.)

If you are wondering about a general multivitamin and Whole30, I'll leave that question to one of the moderators.
