Hello fellow Whole30ers!!!!  Today is my first day and while i'm thrilled to be starting my journey i'm absolutely exhausted....already.  And kinda hungry.  I will shortly abandon writing my first post to seek advice from others on a good pick me up.

Hope everyone is having a great day and looking forward to the forum!!

Cheers,

Hannah

Hey Hannah,

What was your intake like pre-Whole30? Did you rely on a mid day pick me up like sweetened coffee, muffin, chocolate bar, cookies etc? Did you used to eat a lot of sugary stuff during the day?  How'd you sleep last night? Were you excited/nervous about starting today? How much water have you had?

Can you give us an impression of what you ate today?

Hi Hannah!  I'm on Day 1 today, Jan 15th.  I'm also really tired and hungry!  My eating habits are/were really bad.  I used to snack throughout the day, running down to the cafe to get a soda or some chips whenever I got bored at work.  Today I packed my carefully planned Whole30 meals, and it just wasn't enough.  I made it to about 1PM before I just had to order an unwich from Jimmy John's.

I think I'm also feeling more tired, because now that I'm not snacking on carbs all day, I'm extra bored at work. Ha!

Jimmy John is notorious for not disclosing the ingredients in their products even upon direct request.  They will even go so far as to refuse to publish an allergen list.  Did you ask them what was in their deli products? Sugar, soy, corn starch, carrageenan, dairy?

Regarding Jimmy John's, I just emailed them and while they refused to give me an ingredient list, I did go through the list they sent of what contains dairy, soy, wheat, corn, sugar and MSG, the only two meats that would seem compliant are the capicola and the salami.  HOWEVERthey declined to comment on sulphites or carrageenan so Jimmy John's should not play any part in anyone's Whole30, sorry!

If you're eating enough at meals, you won't be hungry, which makes it a lot easier not to snack. It may take you a while to figure out how much that is for you, but you'll get there. For now, pack more than you think you could possibly need, so you always have some food if you do get hungry, or consider leaving emergency food at your desk, like cans of salmon or tuna, a small bottle of olive oil, or maybe some compliant jerky. You could take a big baggie full of vegetables like carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, and snap peas and leave in the fridge at work for the week, if keeping something in the fridge multiple days is allowed at your work -- that way you'd only have to haul it up there once, and if you get to the end of the week and haven't eaten it yet, you can plan it as part of your lunch, or take it home and stir fry it. If you can find compliant canned vegetables, a can or two of something like green beans stashed in a desk drawer, along with a can opener, could work too.

During the times you would have previously gotten up and gone down to the cafe, get up and refill your water glass, or if you have a longer break and the weather is decent, go outside in the sunshine for a little bit. Go up and down the stairs a couple of times. It's really the getting up and moving that breaks up your day, not the food itself.

And don't worry, the tired part won't last.
