Chudder
K I know this sounds like a stupid question. But I have a doctor appt. today and I have to get weighed. The nurse always announces my weight for all to hear. Must I start over? I'm on day 19. I'd really hate to start over.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted January 20, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2016 Try telling them that you do not consent to being weighed during this visit. If that doesn't work, tell her you don't want to know and tell the doctor also. Unless they are working out an amount of medication to give you that is based upon body weight, it's up to you what gets discussed at your dr appointment. BobbyL
My nurses never say out loud my weight. But I also have an appointment coming up with my endocrinologist (had thyroid removed nearly 3 years ago) during my 30 days, and I'm just going to tell them exactly what I'm doing and ask them not to tell me the weight. Though my endocrinologist is a crotchety old fart, and I just know he's going to want to talk about it. If I find out, I'm just going to remind myself I'm not on a "weight loss" program for these 30 days, and whatever it is does not matter. The whole point in not weighing in is to not get discouraged and stop before day 30. If you do find out, just don't let it deter you. Tell yourself you are at the "bloat" stage and just retaining water and that weight doesn't matter.
praxisproject
My doctor weighs me all the time and doesn't tell me the number and knows not to "hint" about the number.

Unless they are working out an amount of medication to give you that is based upon body weight, it's up to you what gets discussed at your dr appointment. I'm a nurse auditor and doctor's offices are supposed to weigh you as part of your history and physical, which is an integral part of your visit that must be documented in order for them to get reimbursed by your insurance company and to meet federal guidelines. Just let the medical assistant know that you don't want to know your weight, you can stand on the scale backwards so you're sure not to peek.
